Job title: Engineering Manager

Job Location: Western Cape, Cape Town

An Engineering Manager is responsible for line management and career guidance. The ability to develop engineering talent, to represent your team and product from a technical perspective, and to drive collaboration with other teams and customers are all critical to success in this role.

We have open manager roles across a wide range of engineering domains, including:

  5. Flutter
  6. Distro packaging and systems
  7. SAAS and web microservices

  10. Graphics, Browser and Desktop
  11. Silicon enablement and embedded devices
  12. Product Security

What you’ll do:

  1. Lead and develop a team of engineers, ranging from graduate to senior.
  2. Work remotely in a single major time zone, sometimes two.
  3. Coach, mentor, and offer career development feedback.
  4. Identify and measure team health indicators.
  5. Implement disciplined engineering processes.
  6. Represent your team and product to stakeholders, partners, and customers.
  7. Develop and evangelise great engineering and organisational practices.
  8. Plan and manage progress on agreed goals and projects.
  9. Be an active part of the leadership team, collaborating with other leaders.

What we’re looking for in you:

  1. An exceptional academic track record from both high school and university.
  2. Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM, or a compelling narrative about your alternative path.
  3. Drive and a track record of going above and beyond expectations.
  4. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  5. A love of developing and growing people and a track record of it.
  6. Experience in leading, coaching, and mentoring software developers.
  7. Organised and able to ensure your team delivers timely, high-quality results.
  8. Well-organised, self-starting, and able to deliver to schedule.
  9. Professional manner of interacting with colleagues, partners, and the community.
  10. You have advanced expertise in your domain.
  11. You are knowledgeable and passionate about software development.
  12. You have solid experience working in an agile development environment.
  13. You have a demonstrated drive for continual learning.
  14. Builds trust, relationships, and confidence.
  15. Result-oriented, with a personal drive to meet commitments.
  16. Ability to travel twice a year, for company events up to two weeks each.
  17. Additional skills we value:
  18. Experience in a developer advocacy or community role.
  19. Ops and system administration experience.
  20. Performance engineering and security experience.
  21. ICT jobs.
