This Subsidiary is looking for another talented professional to complement their team, in the form of an Engineer: Electrical/Controls & Instrumentation.

The below listed responsibilities and requirements are assessed during the interview stages and will further be confirmed with the relevant professional references that you currently are or have reported to in your previous two positions.


Core Purpose


To actively participate in and lead as required the development and delivery of core engineering outputs to energy and mining services solutions. This includes the designing of renewable energy systems, grid evacuation and mining sector particular to control and instrumentation (C&I) or Protection, Telecontrol and Metering (PTM).


Key Performance Areas

  • Strong knowledge in either Mining C&I (Control and Instrumentation) or Eskom PTM (Protection Telecontrol & Metering)
  • Strong knowledge of MCC, PLC, DCS, SCADA, etc.
  • Strong knowledge of SCADA, Telecontrol and DC Systems.
  • Understand local standards SANS, OSHA and Electrical Knowledge of Siemens, Rockwell Automation/Allen Bradley and Mitsubishi PLCs and associated hardware would be advantageous.
  • Reflect instrument requirements on project MFD’s / P&ID’s utilizing ISO standards and symbology.
  • Knowledge of Fieldbus and Industrial Communication protocols such as Profibus DP/PA, Profinet and Ethernet/IP would be advantageous.
  • Responsible to plan, organize, direct, manage, coordinate, and implement control & instrumentation related aspects of all Project Packages.
  • Experience in erection and commissioning of Green/Brown field projects from concept stages, tender preparation & bid adjudication, review of detailed engineering design, till project hand over to operation team.
  • Design and verification. This includes instrument size and protection methodology calculations and verification checks.
  • Preparation of Instrument drawings.
  • Good working knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act and Environmental Management principles, practices, and statutory requirements.
  • Electrical utility experience and knowledge of electrical substations and switching stations equipment, e.g., transformers, circuit breakers, medium voltage switchgear, gas insulated substations (GIS), regulators, capacitor banks, disconnect switches, oil pumping plants, and associated electrical system for switching and substations and or outside plant electric distribution and/or transmission systems, form the control and protection aspect.
  • Proficiency working on protection and control drawings including one-line diagrams, relay protection, control schematics, instrumentation and alarm schematics, SCADA controls, racks and panels views, wiring diagrams, cable schedules .AC & D.C power and controls, alarms, fiber optic communication and equipment monitoring systems.
  • Proficient in working on one-line controls, schematics for protective relays including microprocessor relays, control schematics, alarms, auxiliary power, SCADA and metering circuits, etc. and understanding of electrical layout drawings in order to effectively support projects.
  • Coordinate with vendors and manufacturers and review technical documentation including vendor drawings.
  • Create Schematics, diagrams, and technical documentation for electrical systems.

Job Requirements


Qualifications:

  • BSc/ BEng/ BTech (Electrical)
  • Professionally Registered with ECSA
  • Relevant post graduate qualifications albeit technical, management or business related would be advantageous.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 6 years’ experience within the field of E&I and/ or PTM systems engineering and construction.
  • C&I or PTM Design Engineering related experience.
  • Commissioning experience is advantageous.
  • Project experience is advantageous.
  • Proven working experience in the electrical/ consulting industry with project experience in electrical projects with 5 to 10 years of experience will be advantageous.

Core Competencies:

  • Proficient in the use of relevant software for C&I or PTM design is advantageous.
  • Proficient in the design and execution of projects within the EPC (Engineering Procurement and Construction) framework.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be fully computer literate in MS Office to a very high level.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical design principles, codes, and standards.
