Job description

Job Description:

IoT.nxt is seeking a seasoned Energy Consultant to join our team, working with our cutting-edge Remote Management System (RMS) platform that integrates Energy Management System (EMS) functionality. The role focuses on helping customers across industries—telecom, utilities, commercial, and industrial—drive energy efficiency, reduce costs, and meet ESG objectives through our software solution. You will work with our product team to ensure industry standards (like ISO 50001) are built into the platform and consult directly with customers both pre- and post-sales. You'll use energy data collected by the EMS to develop insights and recommend practical improvements, support implementation, and track impact. This is a hybrid role requiring technical, analytical, and consultative skills with real-world application.

Key Result Areas:

  1. Define and Evolve EMS Features
Work with the product and engineering teams to shape EMS capabilities by translating customer needs and industry best practices (e.g., ISO 50001) into product features such as data analytics, automated alerts, and AI-driven optimisation recommendations.
  2. Support Pre-Sales Consultations
Collaborate with the sales and solutions engineering teams to engage prospective clients. Assist in gathering customer energy goals, presenting demos, and building business cases that showcase how the EMS delivers energy savings and ESG compliance.
  3. Lead Customer Onboarding and Enablement
Guide new customers through EMS setup and onboarding, tailoring dashboards, configuring alerts, and aligning system outputs with site-level goals. Provide support for energy managers, operations teams, and executives.
  4. Analyse EMS Data to Identify Opportunities
Interpret telemetry and metering data from the RMS/EMS platform to uncover inefficiencies, abnormal consumption patterns, and opportunities for savings. Use insights to support both short-term wins and long-term optimisation.
  5. Deliver Actionable Insights and Reports
Develop data-backed reports and business cases that recommend operational changes—such as generator runtime adjustments, HVAC scheduling, or battery optimisation—quantifying their potential energy and cost impact.
  6. Implement and Validate Control Strategies
Collaborate with customer teams to execute recommended actions. Fine-tune control logic, thresholds, and EMS configurations, then monitor post-implementation performance to verify energy and cost savings.
  7. Support ESG Reporting and Compliance
Help clients leverage EMS data for regulatory or voluntary reporting (e.g., carbon footprint, sustainability KPIs). Guide alignment with ESG frameworks and audit-readiness practices.
  8. Act as an Energy Systems Subject Matter Expert
Provide expertise across multiple systems: grid, solar, batteries, HVAC, compressed air, lighting, and more. Guide platform configuration to reflect real-world asset behaviour.
  9. Collaborate Cross-Functionally
Work closely with Product, Engineering, Customer Success, and Marketing teams to ensure EMS strategy is aligned across the organisation and externally communicated.
  10. Drive Product and Process Improvement
Gather feedback from customer engagements and use cases to recommend platform enhancements. Contribute to internal documentation, playbooks, and best practice libraries.

Qualifications, Experience, Skills, Competencies:

Educational Background:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Energy Management, Sustainability, or a related field. (An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.)
  2. Certified Energy Manager (CEM) certification (or equivalent credential in energy management) is required. Working knowledge of ISO 50001 standards for Energy Management Systems and practical experience applying those principles in real-world settings.
  3. Credentials such as Certified Energy Auditor (CEA), Certified Measurement & Verification Professional (CMVP), LEED Accredited Professional, or ISO 50001 Certified Professional (CP) or Lead Auditor (LA). Any certification related to sustainability or carbon accounting (e.g., Carbon Auditing Professional (CAP) or related ESG certifications) would be an advantage.

Work Experience:

  1. 5+ years of professional experience in energy management, energy efficiency consulting, or a related role. This should include hands-on experience analysing energy usage data, and implementing energy-saving initiatives, preferably across multiple sectors such as commercial buildings, industrial facilities, utility operations, and telecommunications infrastructure.
  2. Product/Technical Experience: Prior involvement in developing or implementing remote monitoring and control solutions, IoT platforms, or enterprise software products. Experience in a product management or solutions engineering capacity where you interfaced between users and developers can be a plus.
  3. Basic understanding of accessing data through smart meters, IoT devices, and APIs. Familiarity with database queries, data visualisation tools, or basic scripting for data analysis. Knowledge of how to use dashboards or create custom analytics within an EMS/BMS.

Skills:

  1. Strong energy data analysis, techno-economic modelling, and reporting.

  3. Ability to translate data into real business outcomes (e.g., R/kWh savings, ROI).
  4. Comfortable working with cross-functional teams and remote monitoring platforms.

Competencies:

  1. Leadership: Ability to inspire and lead a team towards achieving service excellence.
  2. Customer Focus: Dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of clients.
