EMPLOYEE RELATIONS ADVISOR
PEROMNES POST LEVEL 7

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful incumbent will be responsible to:
- Support the Deputy Director: Employee Relations and Wellness in the implementation of the HR strategy and achievement of all Employee Relations targets;
- Provide specialist advice, guidance, support and representation with regards to Employment Relations and labour law compliance to Director: Human Resources;
- Provide specialist advice to Line Managers, UP employees, Unions and the HR team in the effective management of the employee relations procedures and processes, disciplinary procedures and grievance procedures;
- Advise Line Management, Human Resources Business Partner and staff in resolution of disputes;
- Advise Line Management and Human Resources Business Partners on initiating of disciplinary and alternative dispute resolution processes;
- Attend to disciplinary matters in terms of relevant documentation, legal advice obtained, communication, research and consultations with all effected parties, in accordance with agreed policies;
- Provide orientation sessions and workshops in Employee Relations processes and procedures through scheduled or mandatory training workshops for Human Resources Business Partners, Line Managers and Shop Stewards;
- Provide specialist advice, guidance, support and representation on policy and procedure development and maintenance;
- Prepare reports on an annual and monthly basis in respect to all employee relations targets and statutory requirements;
- Identify and define trends, barriers and impending risks with respect to employee relations issues;
- Represent the University on legal and Employee Relations matters;
- Prepare for proceedings through case law research and compiling bundles for the CCMA commissioners and union representatives;
- Assist with consultations with external legal advisors, trade union officials, Department of Labour, CCMA and Labour Law consultants;
- Represent the University in labour negotiations.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- LLB Degree with a total 3 years’ relevant experience; or
- 3 years’ Human Resources related degree with 4 years’ relevant experience;
- Specialist ER or general legal experience;
- Exposure to a unionised environment;
- Exposure to collective bargaining.
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):
- Excellent knowledge in Labour Law;
- Good knowledge of organised labour processes and procedures;
- Good knowledge of CCMA processes and procedures;
- Good knowledge of Labour Court, Labour Appeal Court processes and procedures;
- Excellent HR policies and procedures knowledge;
- Excellent litigation skills;
- Excellent negotiation skills;
- Excellent legal writing skills;
- Excellent research skills;
- Excellent computer skills;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Excellent collective bargaining skills;
- Excellent planning and organisation skills;
- Good interpersonal skills;
- Excellent relationship management skills.
ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:
- Post Graduate Diploma in Labour Law or Employee Relations;
- 3 years’ higher education experience.
