Responsibilities

The underground Electrician is accountable for repairing, replacement and upgrade of components underground. This includes the maintenance of relevant records for all Winder and Electrical equipment installations. The incumbent delivers scheduled and unscheduled tasks as assigned to ensure safe and optimal Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE). A core accountability of the role is to maintain the highest possible safety standards in the area of operation and influence.

Minimum Requirements

1. Grade 12 or equivalent
2. Relevant Trade Certificate
3. Minimum 5 Years’ Experience As An Underground Electrician
4. Minimum 5 years’ experience working on medium voltage (MV) networks/systems including substations, switchgear, mini substations, etc.
5. Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test, and such other tests as may be required to assess the applicant’s suitability for employment.

5. Demonstrated experience with legal inspections of electrical installations

7. Required to undergo further training and development on Winders and related Infrastructure and equipment

Duties And Responsibilities

1. Ensure health and safety of self and team members by applying relevant standards and procedures in all planning and execution of maintenance activities
2. Perform inspections in accordance with the Mine Health and Safety Act regulations, and Company standards
3. Contribute to a culture of zero harm by adhering to all requirements as laid down by legislation, health, safety, environmental, security policies, and procedures, and by the application of specific instructions to own work area and task completion
4. Ensure condition monitoring of equipment, scheduled and planned maintenance is conducted timeously and effectively
5. Conduct repairing, maintenance and construction of MCC’s, substations, crushers, conveyors and general maintenance in and around the Shaft
6. Repair breakdowns as they occur and assist with expansions and construction of new equipment installations
7. Align with planned maintenance schedules, including maintenance of relevant records for all winder and electrical equipment and electrical installations in area of responsibility
8. Promote and develop teamwork to become an effective team member
9. Timely response to breakdown management, conduct appropriate root cause analysis and diagnosis
10. Conduct expansion and construction of new equipment or installations as per work order
11. Identify spares requirements and book against the maintenance defect log system
12. Work overtime, standby and be available for callouts should the need arise
