Triton Express: Diesel Mechanic (Johannesburg)

Triton Fleet Management was established in 2013 as a result of the ever growing need within Triton Express to have a stand-alone fleet solution to service the business.

The Diesel Mechanic position has become available at Triton Express Johannesburg, reporting to the Workshop Manager.

Responsibilities

1. Servicing and repairing heavy commercial vehicles & trailers as per OEM Spec.
2. Good Knowledge of Volvo, Scania, Isuzu, Merc, UD Trucks & Commercial Trailers.
3. Strong Diagnostics / fault finding and repairing vehicles skills.
4. Replacing faulty components as per OEM requirements.
5. Knowledge of which OEM special tools to be used to carry out repairs.
6. Must be conversant with diagnostic and fault-finding equipment. Laptops, Multimeters etc.
7. Attending to the overhauling and replacements of engines, gearboxes and differentials and related components.
8. Inspecting and checking vehicles and reporting all defects to management.
9. Having good experience in welding, repairing bodywork of trucks and trailers, preparation & spray painting.
10. Good mechanical, electrical and electronic knowledge and experience and fault finding.
11. Servicing, maintaining and fault finding on hydraulic components and systems.
12. Good Knowledge of all types of trailers, fitted with air suspensions and Air Brakes.
13. Good Knowledge of air brake systems & air over hydraulic brakes diagnosing and repairing of problems.
14. Attending to breakdowns, diagnosing and repairing vehicles onsite. (where possible).
15. Willing to work extended hours and overtime on short notice, as well as weekends and being on standby 24/7 at times.
16. Workstation should always be kept clean and safe.
17. Adherence to legislation, OSHA, National Road Traffic Act and Company policies and procedures.
18. Working knowledge of tyres and tyre failures.

Requirements

1. Grade 12 minimum (Matric).
2. Certified Diesel Mechanic – Trade Certificate preferably 10 years post trade test experience.
3. Preferably trade / apprenticeship done at a recognized Franchised OEM Truck Dealership.
4. Training courses with OEMs will be advantages.
5. Preferably minimum of 5 years’ experience working on Volvo, Mercedes and Scania, UD and Isuzu trucks including breakdowns.
6. Ability to use a laptop to diagnose vehicles.
7. Unendorsed driver’s license- preferable code 14 / EC type license.
8. Valid PDP.
9. Ability to work under pressure.
10. Ability to work unsupervised majority of the time.
11. Ability to communicate both verbally and written on all levels – both internally and externally.
12. Ability to work as a team player.
13. Good time management – meeting specific deadlines.

15. Self-motivated, helpful and putting Company Interest First.
