Job Description
A leader in financial services is looking for a BSc Honours Property Studies Graduate to fill a Commercial Property Finance Intern job. Working within their Commercial Property Finance team, the role entails new business, legal, credit control, and operational functions. This is a 12-month fixed duration contract for a candidate in the final year of a bachelor's or enrolled in an honours or master's degree in property studies, finance, or economics.


Responsibilities

  1. Conduct thorough research on the South African commercial property market, analysing industry trends, identifying key players, and highlighting emerging opportunities. Provide regular updates and reports to support informed property decisions.
  2. Assist in the analysis of financial statements, property valuations, and cash flow models to evaluate potential investment opportunities. Collaborate with team members to assess risk and return profiles.
  3. Support the team in preparing financial models, presentations, and proposals for potential financing and investment opportunities, including loan origination, refinancing, or deal structuring.
  4. Aid in the preparation of legal and financial documentation required for property finance transactions, ensuring compliance with relevant regulatory and internal policies.
  5. Participate in due diligence processes for potential property acquisitions, conducting property inspections, environmental assessments, and other relevant investigations.
  6. Interact with clients, both internal and external, to gather information, address inquiries, and provide support as needed. Foster strong relationships with clients to facilitate business development.
  7. Collaborate with risk management teams to assess and mitigate risks associated with commercial property finance transactions.
  8. Assist in preparing regular reports and updates for senior management, offering insights into the performance of the commercial property finance portfolio.
  9. Stay abreast of industry trends, regulations, and best practices in commercial property finance. Attend training sessions and participate in team meetings to enhance knowledge and skills.
  10. Support the team with valuation inspections and preparation of valuation reports, contributing to comprehensive property evaluations.

Requirements

  1. Currently enrolled in a bachelor's or master's degree programme in property studies, finance, economics, or a related field.
  2. Valid driver's licence is not negotiable.
  3. Strong analytical and quantitative skills.
  4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  5. Attention to detail and ability to work with financial data.
  6. Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
  7. Self-motivated and eager to learn about commercial property finance.
