Principal Tailings Engineer

The position offers the opportunity to excel both in the design office and on specific project sites within Africa.

Minimum Requirements :

• A BEng or BSc degree in Civil / Mining engineering is required.
• An honours degree would be an advantage.
• Professional Engineer with a minimum of 15 years specifically with tailings.
• Previous experience in design, construction, and surveillance of Tailings Storage Facilities with specific experience in serving as Engineer of Record for large projects.
• Proven track record of bringing projects in on time, within budget, and to the client’s satisfaction.
• Strong ability to manage multiple projects and clients simultaneously delivering design services on time and within budget.
• Strong technical ability in tailings management, geotechnics, heap leaching, and water management.
• Competent report and proposal writing skills requiring strong English language skills (verbal and written).
• Ability to review reports and carry out audits.
• Ability to manage people, technical teams, and mentor junior staff.

Key Responsibilities :

• Review, design, construction, and remediation of tailings structures at all stages of the projects. This includes pre-feasibility, feasibility, detailed design, construction, operational, and closure stages.
• Undertaking desk-based studies utilising data and information from a variety of sources.
• Undertaking scoping and pre-feasibility studies.
• Design and supervision of mine waste facilities.
• Project management and co-ordination.
• Report and proposal writing.
• Mentorship of employees.
• Occasional travel to sites.
