Job Description

  • Location: Table View, Cape Town
  • Starting Date: As soon as possible, however, negotiable
  • Job Type: Full-time, permanent position
  • Work Hours: Typical work week of 40 hours, including weekends on rotation.
  • Travel: Be willing and able to travel for short distances to and from schools and off-site venues.
  • Remuneration: Subject to negotiation, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The Position

As the Educator, you will need a clear understanding of SANCCOB’s operations and its mission, vision, and strategic objectives. You will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and facilitating various educational programmes and events, and supporting sales and stock control in the merchandise shop. This is an entry-level role requiring experience in people skills and good communication manners to promote the SANCCOB brand.

Roles and Responsibilities

Education And Awareness Functions

  • Offer high quality educational tours and programmes to on-site and off-site schools/groups.
  • Conduct informative and interactive onsite tours of the SANCCOB facility.
  • Organise/host/represent education-oriented programmes/events.
  • Host informative online lessons with local and international audiences.
  • Ensure high quality adult education/community engagement programmes.
  • Ensure information relayed in all programmes is accurate and current.
  • Maintain professionalism at all times.
  • Ensure education-related programmes cater to the relevant target audience/age group.
  • Travel to under-resourced schools to engage with learners/community members.
  • Provide educational lessons/tours to individuals with special educational needs.
  • Assist with planning and hosting educational holiday programmes.

Administrative Functions

  • Manage the merchandise shop, including stock takes and sales.
  • Source eco-friendly and sustainable stock for the shop.
  • Manage the online shop ensuring timely shipping and queries are addressed.
  • Recruit and host school groups, including online lessons.
  • Coordinate logistics for programmes according to specifications.
  • Assist with budget management and prospect for new income opportunities.
  • Produce monthly reports and ensure cleanliness of the Education and Visitor Centre.
  • Manage inventories of educational equipment.
  • Drive responsibilities for off-site education events.
  • Train education interns and volunteers.
  • Complete all assigned administrative functions accurately and timely.

Qualifications And Requirements

  • Matric certificate.
  • Diploma or equivalent in Conservation, marine science or Tourism is advantageous.
  • Experience in Public speaking, Education, sales, and teambuilding.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams).
  • Advanced writing, reporting, and presentation skills.
  • Driver’s license and own transport.
  • South African citizen or valid work permit.
