Job Purpose:

Conduct academic and clinical teaching and assessments according to a set syllabus of the basic nursing programme, assist in simulation laboratory management, support the department and faculty in achieving its academic objectives, manage academic administration from admission to completion, and contribute to academic initiatives to enhance a teaching and Work Integrated Learning environment. Work in the programme coordination structure of the Department and teach in the post-basic programmes where applicable. Contribute to curriculum development, research, and community engagement projects.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • At least two (2) years academic lecturing experience and/or four (4) years clinical training experience in the nursing discipline after registration at SANC.
  • Qualification in Nursing Education.
  • Registration at the South African Nursing Council as a general nurse, midwife, and nurse educator.
  • An additional qualification in Oncology, Occupational Health, Advanced Midwifery, or Primary Care will be an advantage.

Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities:

  • Lecture in the Nursing Science Extended Curriculum programmes.
  • Manage a skills laboratory and partake in skill laboratory activities and assets in line with SANC requirements, following nursing standards, and coordinating laboratory and placements rosters of staff and students.
  • Curriculum development, theoretical and clinical teaching, and assessments in the ECP programme.
  • Implement and monitor academic and clinical records and progress of students according to SANC regulations in the ECP programme, and manage full academic administration from admissions to completions.
  • Ensure quality assurance principles are followed in the Extended Curriculum Programme and when needed in other programmes offered in the Department.
  • Facilitate academic and clinical development of student learner nurses within a work-integrated learning and mobile learning situation.
  • Assist in the Department with educational activities where a need is identified by the HoD to enhance the quality of programme delivery.
  • Participate in community development projects and portfolios in the department.
  • Engage in professional development sessions and research projects.
  • Proficiency in English (Verbal & Written).
  • Good administrative and organizational skills (record keeping, etc.).
  • Appropriate level of academic and clinical knowledge in Nursing Science to apply a PHC approach in offering the nursing curricula.
  • Ensure that the classroom and clinical education settings used for teaching are well-equipped.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team as a role model.
  • Demonstrate planning, organizing, leadership, and control skills to assist in tasks related to student admissions to completion of their studies.
  • Computer literacy and implementation in educational settings, along with portfolio implementation under or as a program coordinator and within the Department.
  • Strong learner-centered approach and ability to work in a team and in an environment with strong work ethics.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office 365.
