Job description

Role Summary:

PwC is seeking an experienced corporate tax advisor to join the Deals Tax team, a specialised unit within the larger Corporate and International Tax advisory team. Demonstrated expertise in managing Deals / Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) projects in a listed and/or private equity environment is required.

Qualifications / Certifications required:

Relevant professional qualification (CA(SA) and/or Admitted Attorney). Post graduate studies in Corporate Tax will be beneficial.

Experience required:

7-12 years’ corporate tax advisory experience, focusing on:

  • Tax structuring of corporate transactions;
  • Tax due diligence reviews;
  • Tax structuring of financing arrangements and debt restructurings;
  • Deal implementation including tax reviews of financial models / transaction legals;
  • Private Equity Tax Services;
  • Interpretation and technical positions on relevant provisions of the Income Tax Act (incl. 8E, 8EA, 19, 22B, 23M, 23N, ss 42-47, etc) and the Eighth Schedule to the Act (par. 12A, 43A, etc.);
  • Delivering tax technical opinions and step plans relating to the above;
  • Liaison with SARS and Senior Counsel relating to the above.

Responsibilities of role:

The successful candidate will be required to:

  • Manage team performance, including work allocation to junior staff members and on-the-job coaching and mentoring to junior team members;
  • Act as the relationship manager of a portfolio of clients/transactions against individual and team Net Revenue targets;
  • Perform technical reviews of draft deliverables prepared by junior team members;
  • Report into Deals Tax Partner for ultimate signoff of deliverables;
  • Ensure timely delivery to the highest technical standard;
  • Support the sales strategy of leadership;
  • Manage project economics pro-actively;
  • Ensure team adherence to internal risk management policies.

  • Ability to provide bespoke advice of the highest technical standard in a clear and concise manner (both in writing and at an interpersonal level);

Independence requirements to be taken into consideration:

Standard PwC risk management restrictions apply.

Industry experience required:

Deep knowledge of, and experience in dealing with, complicated corporate transactions within a large tax practice (e.g. Big-4 auditing firm and/or reputable corporate law firm) is preferred.
