We are looking for a motivated Handyman who can take initiative to perform upkeep and repair tasks at our buildings. The successful individual must be able to keep our buildings in perfect condition by performing various electrical and plumbing jobs and maintenance. The ideal candidate would have previous experience as a handyman in a student accommodation.
Qualifications / Requirements:
Grade 10-12 (Matric) advantage
Proven experience as a Handyman
Basic understanding of electrical and plumbing
Experience with hardware tools and electrical equipment
Minimum code B driver’s license (Code EB preferred)
Preference will be given to candidates that meet the below requirements:
Basic Electrical and Plumbing certification
Good communication skills
Problem-solving skills
Ability to take initiative and work independently
Attention to detail and ability to identify potential problems
Key Performance Areas:
Perform general handyman duties and maintenance and repairs within the buildings.
Setup installations, troubleshoot, and maintain lights and plugs at different buildings when required.
Apply paint, stain, and coatings to walls or ceilings and repair gaps, pop-ups, or cracks on the walls.
Perform tiling work and be responsible for cutting and installing tiles on floors, walls, and other surfaces.
Take responsibility for all tools and equipment in storerooms.
Change doors, locks, and handles.
Change and repair windows and light bulbs.
Perform general electrician duties when needed.
Repair kettles, stoves, microwaves, washing machines, and dryers.
Repair cabinet hinges and perform general woodworking tasks, including installing building frameworks, wooden floors, and doorframes.
Undertake duties as assigned or emergency tasks when instructed.
Identify issues that need attention and repairs.
Assist contractors onsite with major electrical, plumbing, and tiling work.
Perform general handyman work and any other duties as directed by the Maintenance Manager.
