Wind Project Engineer - Cape Town

We’re seeking an experiencedWind Engineerwith at least3+ years in therenewable energy sectorand certification inLidar technology. If you’re highly analytical, skilled in met mast technologies, and thrive in onsite environments, this role is for you!

You will love this role because you will be in charge of shaping energy strategies for some of the most innovative wind projects in the industry, working with a global leader boasting a 2,000 MW pipeline of wind and solar projects, many in advanced development stages.

You have proven Wind Measurement Systems, you’ve optimised Wind Measurement Masts (Met Masts) andLidar systems, ensuring reliable, high-quality data. You’ve also contributed to wind turbine generator layout designs and strategically positioned turbines to maximize energy yield and site efficiency.

Furthermore, your proficiency withWindPro, WindographerandWAsPsoftware enables you to refine methods, improve wind energy predictions, and push the boundaries of what’s possible. You tackle on-site challenges and optimise performance, always thinking critically and crafting innovative, practical solutions to drive project success.

Education Requirements

• A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Renewable Energy Engineering
• Lidar Technology Certification, highly preferable
• Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) Registration

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 3 years of experience in the renewable energy sector, specifically in wind energy projects
• Proven experience in Wind Turbine Generator (WTG) layout design, optimizing turbine placement for maximum energy yield and site efficiency
• Demonstrated ability to identify and solve complex technical challenges, ensuring optimal performance and data accuracy throughout wind energy projects
• Site-based experience

Responsibilities

• Met Mast Data Analysis & Wind Flow Modeling: Analyse Wind Met Mast data, assess wind regimes, and model wind flow to optimize site performance and ensure accurate energy yield forecasting
• Wake Effect & Energy Yield Forecasting: Conduct in-depth analysis of wake effects and utilise data to accurately forecast energy yields, ensuring project profitability and efficiency
• Wind Measurement Campaign Development: Assist in the development and execution of wind measurement strategies to support the successful implementation of wind energy projects in South Africa
• Maintenance of Met Masts & Lidar Systems: Perform both routine and ad-hoc maintenance on Wind Met Masts and Lidar systems, ensuring continuous data collection and optimal functionality across multiple wind projects
• On-Site Technical Support: Provide hands-on technical support during the installation of wind measurement devices and systems, ensuring smooth, timely setup of equipment in line with project requirements
• Data Accuracy & Quality Control: Help monitor and verify the accuracy of collected data through rigorous quality control measures, ensuring reliable information for analysis and decision-making
• Record Maintenance & Documentation: Maintain thorough records of all maintenance work, inspections, and repairs performed on measurement equipment, ensuring compliance and traceability
• Comprehensive Reporting: Write detailed, clear, and comprehensive reports on completed tasks, maintaining high standards for project documentation and providing transparency to stakeholders
• Health & Safety Compliance: Always adhere to Health and Safety standards, ensuring that all wind measurement and project activities are conducted in a safe environment, meeting industry regulations
• Wind Farm Site Selection & WTG Layout Design: Assist with site selection during the initial wind farm development phase, and support the execution of Wind Turbine Generator (WTG) layout designs, contributing to efficient, high-output wind farm development

Skills

• Strong skills in data analysis, and reporting
• Proficiency in Excel and MATLAB
• Proficiency in WindPro, WAsP, Windographer, or similar wind simulation software.
• Fluency in English
• A valid driver's license
