To provide coordination and control over the execution of Control & Automation activities in order to ensure stability and integrity of Manufacturing Systems throughout our company.
Duties and responsibilities:
Analyse C&A environment and develop adequate standards for review by Manufacturing and Engineering leads.
Develop standardised processes and procedures in consultation with operational leads to ensure C&A stability and reliability, this is done for our company and shared with Group for the Greater Africa context.
The role supports 13 Manufacturing Plants (from 5 plants to 13).
Assist with ensuring that the system architecture environment remains aligned with manufacturing systems standards and IT standards where applicable.
Facilitation, implementation and project management of automation and control systems projects to satisfy the requirements of manufacturing within budget and timelines.
Identify and motivate technical CAPIN justification.
Contribute to the development and execution of a 1 to 3-year C&A strategy required for CAPIN (Capital Investment Proposals) and operational support.
Coach, guide and assist both direct reports and influenced roles in project and operational scenarios.
Lead and effectively manage change, supporting pre-implementation, execution and post-implementation for pure C&A initiatives and activities that impact on C&A.
Ensure the integrity and reliability of production systems software and hardware from PLC devices to ERP system by monitoring maintenance, adherence to standards and effective problem solving.
Maintain and participate in the C&A community by enabling knowledge sharing and skill transfer.
Optimise Process Performance, through appropriate Problem-Solving Techniques and statistical analysis in order to improve performance.
Monitor and evaluate operational processes with respect to C&A.
Proactively engage relevant technical/functional resources to initiate problem solving when deviations occur.
Categorise C&A downtime into manageable and logical groupings.
Evaluate and implement solutions per downtime category in order to minimise or eliminate them.
Scope and define changes with input from operational requirements and supplier expertise and determine the best specification/cost ratio in order to adequately suit business needs.
Contribute to the assessment and development of C&A Technician, Controllers, Graduate Trainees and Process Artisans.
Knowledge sharing and support to Packaging Engineers, Plant Engineers, Unit Managers.
Engage with the BIS (Business Information System) and ISIT (Information System & Information Technology) Teams at central level (Stakeholder Engagement).
Manage engagements with Operational and Project support teams within the company.
Support the intent of ensuring that the functional solution integrates into the broader company template.
Assume joint accountability to ensure that Manufacturing Systems solutions are delivered on time, to budget and meets the requirements of the function.
Assume authority to execute changes in order to ensure manufacturing uptime is maintained without adversely affecting system integrity.
Qualifications and experience:
BSc Engineering (Electronics) or BTech Electrical Engineering (Light Current).
At least 5 years in C&A operational or project role or system integration.
At least 2 to 3 years in a leadership role.
Understanding of virtual systems, network configuration and manufacturing applications.
Specialised knowledge of Instrument and Control calibrations, configurations, maintenance, fault finding, installation standards, documentation standards and instrumentation protocols.
Good understanding of and experience with Wonderware Archestra and Intouch based SCADA systems.
Experience in leading problem solving and providing solutions in time sensitive environments.
Solid experience in unifying disparate control/information systems.
In-depth knowledge of PLCs hardware and software and industrial networking.
Good manufacturing and process understanding.
Experience operating in successful cross-functional teams through both continuous improvement and project-based initiatives.
