Job description

The General Manager will be responsible for the direction, management, and performance of the entity which functions as a profit centre. This position is responsible for a combination of functional divisions comprising operations, sales, and finance. The incumbent will provide strategic direction to all operational functions by overseeing the planning and organizing of operations and managing costs to ensure that services are delivered on time.

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS

Operations

  • Direct and coordinate production, pricing, sales, and distribution activities.
  • Oversee development of plans, process improvement, and performance monitoring.
  • Assign work schedules and duties to direct reports.
  • Review financial statements, sales, and performance data to ensure goal achievement.
  • Identify areas for cost reduction and efficiency improvements.
  • Implement departmental goals, policies, and processes.
  • Oversee staffing, training, and address HR issues in coordination with HR.
  • Ensure compliance with legislation, regulations, and policies.
  • Maintain sound employee relations and productive work culture.
  • Ensure efficient service delivery and resolve operational problems.
  • Translate business plans into actions to achieve sales and revenue targets.
  • Manage and develop sales executives, ensuring client satisfaction.
  • Formulate and implement client strategies to meet sales goals.
  • Maintain/update client records, and foster relationships with key clients.
  • Oversee recruitment and motivation of sales team.
  • Prepare resources to meet future service and/or sales demands.
  • Represent the company at functions and events.

Finance

  • Provide input for and approve annual budgets.
  • Control all departmental resources within budget guidelines.
  • Compile and present budget reports to the MD.
  • Oversee revenue, expenses, as well as cash flow management.

Analyse financial reports to identify cost reduction opportunities.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Degree or diploma within Logistics Management industry.
  • ESSENTIAL: Minimum 8 - 10 years' experience in a similar position within the Logistics / Transport industry.
  • Experience in financial management.
