Sanlam Developing Markets (SDM) (a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sanlam Life Limited) is one of the top financial services providers in the South African entry-level and emerging middle market.

It aims to understand the unique requirements of clients and offers a wide range of simple and affordable financial solutions that cover needs such as funeral insurance, savings for education, life cover, and personal accident plans.

In terms of the Sanlam Group Governance Policy, SDM is managed by the SA Retail Mass cluster, which is part of the Sanlam Life and Savings cluster within the Sanlam Group.

The cluster focuses on retail products, as well as group schemes.

What will you do?

We are looking for a dynamic and visionary Chief Financial Officer to lead the overall financial function in the cluster. The CFO will own and direct Sanlam Retail Mass' financial strategy and is responsible for translating it into financial plans and budgets.

The incumbent will have full oversight of all cluster financial activities, including:

  1. Financial accounting
  2. Management accounting (including budgets and forecasts)
  3. Financial reporting
  4. Financial performance enhancement

The CFO will liaise with, and take overall Sanlam Retail Mass responsibility, functions elsewhere in the Sanlam Group responsible for finance, risk management, internal audit, and mergers and acquisitions.

Exceptional understanding of profitability models in the financial services industry. Proven business acumen. Financial IT Systems and reporting capabilities. Ability to manage strategic relationships with internal and external partners and service providers. Exceptional leadership skills. Comfortable with ambiguity in a fluid organisation. A high level of attention to detail with excellent organisational skills.

Skills and Experience

  1. Develop and implement the financial strategy for Sanlam Retail Mass.
  2. Income statement and balance sheet management.
  3. Experience in reporting at a Group and / or Board and / or Audit committee level.
  4. Advanced broad commercial and economic skills.
  5. Risk analysis and management.
  6. Budget and cost management.
  7. Excellent analytical skills and logical reasoning required.

Qualifications and Experience

CA qualification or FASSA. Minimum 10 years of finance experience in a senior financial role.
