Job Description
To ensure that analysis is conducted timeously.
To ensure that sufficient stocks of all items for the optimal functioning of the laboratory are available at all times.
To report any infringements or non-compliance by any other laboratory staff member with respect to work allocated, punctuality, or any other misdemeanor to the Manager or to his delegated person.
Perform the weighing, drying, crushing, milling, screening & screen checks exactly as per relevant Competence Modules set.
Ensure punctuality at all times.
Ensure customer requirements are achieved with regard to the turnaround time commitments.
Report daily production figures to the Manager or to his delegated person and also bona fide explanations for targets not met.
Follow Manager or his delegated person clear detailed instructions and demonstrate flexibility in executing the duties.
Perform housekeeping to ensure that the work areas and surrounding environment is kept clean at all times.
Verification of XRD, OES, Leco, Mastersizer, all Carbon and XRF equipment using relevant QC samples, enter results on SPCLight and monitor trends.
Perform first line SPC trends trouble-shooting. If problems arise, escalate to the Manager or his delegated person.
Perform the first line maintenance of XRD, OES, Leco, Mastersizer, XRF, Carbon equipment, Sample Preparation equipment (Cast iron machine, Milling Machines, Balances, Furnaces, Ovens, etc) as per schedule/checklists and keeping such documents up to date.
Complies and conforms to Laboratory Quality Management System.
Must know how to prepare and verify calibration standards and quality control standards.
Must be able to troubleshoot.
Must be willing to work overtime/flexible hours when necessary.
Assist in the monthly stock counts within the department.
Must be flexible and competent to work in Spectro, Powders, Carbon, and Environmental Sections of the Laboratory.
Competent in the use of LIMS/MES.
Must be able to interpret data.
Ensure compliance with SGS Health and Safety Act.
Adhere to SGS general safety rules and rules of contact.
Initiate a formal improvement request when a deviation of the system occurs, possible improvements are identified or when nonconformity is identified.
Housekeeping up to standard at all times.
Perform any other reasonable tasks as assigned by direct line manager.
Perform Abatement Plant sampling and analyses by using the relevant environmental sampling equipment and lab equipment.
Qualifications
Education
B.Sc. degree or relevant diploma in Analytical Chemistry.
N3 Certificate.
Matriculation, with Mathematics and Science.
Experience
Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in related industry.
Able to communicate, read and write in English.
Competencies
Must have full understanding of the LIMS system.
Knowledge of the Laboratory Quality Management System.
