Requirements:
- Grade 12 with accounting as a subject.
- Tax or other relevant qualifications.
- Minimum of 5 years of work experience.
- Registered Tax Practitioner or eligibility to be registered.
- Ability to interpret and apply the Income Tax Act, Tax Administration Act, and VAT Act.
- Proven track record of liaising with SARS and handling appointments.
- Strong knowledge of tax compliance processes.
- Required Computer Packages:
- Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook Express)
- GreatSoft
- SARS E-Filing
- Basic understanding of LexisNexis (advantageous).
Responsibilities:
- Assist in supervising tax department staff.
- Support tax manager and compliance officers in completing complex Income Tax Returns.
- Assist tax manager in managing provisional tax administration and meeting deadlines.
- Monitor the dispute resolution process, including drafting objections, appeals, complaints, and Tax Ombud complaints.
- Consult and advise clients on basic tax queries.
- Prepare and review complex tax calculations and returns for companies and individuals.
- Assist tax manager with drafting SARS response letters and ensuring deadlines are met.
- Communicate refund lists to partners.
- Oversee administration of SARS-related documentation (assessments, notifications).
- Guide compliance officers on tax return completion and administration.
- Assist compliance officers with GreatSoft-related tax issues.
- Conduct monthly provisional tax runs and handle SARS provisional tax queries.
- Troubleshoot and resolve GreatSoft-related tax problems.
- Ensure timely submission of documents, returns, and payments to SARS.
- Follow up on client tax payment requests regularly.
- Ensure all tax-related lists (refunds, payments, disputes, tax returns) are updated and shared with partners monthly.
- Resolve disputes on assessments and accounts from SARS related to Income Tax.
- Assist with tax exemption applications and preparation.
- Serve as a SARS liaison for complex tax queries resolution.
- Handle SARS visits for banking detail updates and taxpayer particulars.
- Schedule and manage SARS appointments for all directors.
- Track and log tax queries and compliance matters for company directors.
- Oversee SAIT learners' training and development.
- Hold monthly meetings with the tax manager to report on tax-related progress.
- Ensure team members engage with directors on unsubmitted lists.
- Comply with the firm’s System of Quality Management (SOQM), policies, and procedures.
- Adhere to the firm’s Employee Code of Conduct, including HR policies, SAICA, IRBA, and IESBA Codes of Conduct.
