Product Owner at QES

My client based in Cape Town (North) is currently looking for a Data Product Owner to join them on an independent contract basis.

Position Overview

We are looking for a highly motivated and skilled Data Product Owner to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will act as the bridge between business stakeholders, data teams, and technical teams to drive the development and delivery of data-driven products. You will be responsible for overseeing the lifecycle of data products from ideation to execution, ensuring they align with strategic objectives and deliver valuable insights to the organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Product Strategy and Vision:
• Develop and maintain a clear vision for data products in line with business goals.
• Identify opportunities to leverage data for business growth and efficiency, prioritizing product features accordingly.
• Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand their needs and translate them into product requirements.
• Establish and communicate a roadmap for data products, aligning with business priorities.
• Backlog Management:
• Define, prioritize, and manage the product backlog for data-related features, ensuring delivery aligns with business needs.
• Write detailed user stories and define acceptance criteria, ensuring all requirements are clear and actionable for development teams.
• Continuously prioritize the backlog based on business value, technical feasibility, and data strategy alignment.
• Stakeholder Engagement:
• Act as the primary point of contact for business stakeholders, including data analysts, business users, and leadership.
• Ensure regular communication with stakeholders to gather feedback, clarify requirements, and manage expectations.
• Collaborate with data engineering, data science, and IT teams to ensure the timely delivery of data products.
• Data Product Delivery:
• Oversee the entire lifecycle of data products, from ideation to delivery.
• Ensure products are developed with high quality, meeting user expectations and business objectives.
• Monitor product performance and work with teams to ensure continuous improvement.
• Data Quality and Governance:
• Ensure data products meet high standards of data quality, accuracy, and integrity.
• Support data governance and compliance efforts, ensuring that all data products adhere to relevant regulations and best practices.
• Cross-functional Collaboration:
• Work closely with data engineers, data scientists, UX/UI designers, and developers to ensure effective execution of data product features.
• Facilitate agile ceremonies (e.g., sprint planning, stand-ups, retrospectives) to ensure smooth development and delivery processes.
• Promote a culture of collaboration and knowledge-sharing within the data and product teams.
• Analytics and Reporting:
• Collaborate with analysts to assess the success of data products using relevant KPIs and metrics.
• Use data-driven insights to optimize product performance and inform future iterations.

Key Requirements

• Education and Experience:
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Business, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
• Experience in a Product Owner, Product Manager, or similar role, with a focus on data or analytics products.
• Strong understanding of data analytics, data engineering, and business intelligence tools and methodologies.
• Experience working in an Agile environment and managing product backlogs using tools such as Jira or Trello.
