Role Overview

The Fleet Controller will play a pivotal role in managing our Waste Management operations by managing the Fleet, staff members and strengthening the Company’s dedication to Safety. Key Responsibilities

OPERATIONS

  1. Ensure the optimal routing of vehicles.
  2. Understanding Waste classification in order to allocate the correct vehicle.
  3. Adhere to Customer and landfill requirements.
  4. Managing all services to ensure that all customer requirements and jobs are executed accurately and in accordance with the task list.
  5. Managing all set exchanges and call-ins to ensure all customer calls are executed on time and correctly and jobs are prioritized correctly.
  6. Monitoring and controlling all vehicles via radio, cell or personal contact to ensure route compliance.
  7. Logging all calls on the internal Fleet system and completing all tasks on an ongoing basis to ensure all data is correct on the daysheet system at all times.
  8. Ensuring that all vehicles are fit for use prior to dispatch, in terms of road worthiness and Inter-Waste customer requirements.
  9. Driver compliance with regard to documentation on vehicle inspections, dangerous goods and any other permits and documents.
  10. Extracting and compiling carryover reports and ensuring the incorporation of such carryovers in future planning or arranging special conditions like overtime in conjunction with the Depot Manager.
  11. Monitoring and reporting all variances to scheduled tasks including deviations from routes and performance abnormalities.
  12. Arranging alternatives to ensure proper service is rendered, including renting of vehicles or staff needed.
  13. Ensuring vehicle availability for services, repairs etc. by planning resources to accommodate resultant overtime.
  14. Responsible for vehicle productivity – ensuring the required number of trips per unit is done as specified.
  15. Ensuring all relevant procedures are followed.
  16. Optimal routing as measured against loads/trucks/day for the specific depot.
  17. Responsible for all drivers' documents required for invoicing purposes.
  18. Monitor fuel usage.
  19. Adherence to all required legislation.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

  1. Drive the Company’s Zero Harm policy within your area of operations.
  2. Compliance with all health & safety requirements in line with the company's OHS policies & procedures.
  3. Work within the ISO frameworks and other requirements by Clients.
  4. Ensure all SHEQ policies and requirements are upheld and met.
  5. Ensure SHEQ site file is implemented and maintained.

PEOPLE

  1. Adhere to the principles of an ethical, honest, transparent, fair work environment.
  2. Communicate in a professional manner.
  3. Create, maintain, and enforce company policies and procedures.
  4. Compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and affiliated professional standards.
  5. Promote the Code of Ethics (Integrity, Objectivity, Confidentiality, and Competence).
  6. Maintain discipline by using the Company's disciplinary code and procedures, as well as attending to grievances.
  7. Ensure that all staff members are adequately trained as per the SLA and OSHA requirements.

COMMUNICATION AND FEEDBACK

  1. Build and maintain strong client relationships.
  2. Regular communication with the client.
  3. Understand and manage the needs of the client.
  4. Ensure your superiors are notified in a timely manner regarding aspects of your areas as deemed necessary.
  5. Deal with personnel matters such as reporting incidents, customer complaints, requesting new employees, extension of contracts, and terminations to your manager.
  6. Ensure your manager is informed of all staff-related matters that will affect the organisation in a significant manner immediately.

Desired Experience & Qualification

  1. 3-5 Years’ experience in a Similar Role.
  2. Grade 12 / Matric.
  3. Tertiary qualification in Transportation/Logistics or studying towards such a qualification preferred.
  4. Computer Literate with strong people skills and problem-solving abilities.
  5. Detail-oriented.
  6. Ability to develop and implement standard operating procedures.
  7. Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance and hydraulic lifting equipment.
  8. Excellent written and verbal communication.
  9. Ability to work accurately under pressure.
  10. Valid code 14 motor vehicle driver's licence preferred.
