Job Description
A well-established Commercial Insurance Company seeks to place an Accountant to provide close assistance to the Financial Manager. This is a full-time in-office role for a 3-month fixed term with possible extension.

The incumbent will play a pivotal role in the day-to-day running of the cashbook and treasury function and will be responsible for the following areas within the company: treasury and capital management, regulatory and financial reporting, group accounting, creditors, annual budgets, tax, consolidated shareholder reporting, and supporting broader group strategies and initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  1. Complete daily bank balance schedule and communicate timely with all respective parties.
  2. Execute interdivisional bank transfers.
  3. Capture cashbook transactions.
  4. Manage Fixed Assets.
  5. Month-end capturing and reporting:
    1. Sundry Debtors and Accounts Receivable Invoicing.
    2. Capture Operational and Other Bank Accounts (Call, Money Market and related interest income).
    3. Prepaid Expenses.
    4. Audit Fee Accruals.
    5. Intercompany Loans.
    6. Ad-hoc monthly journals.
    7. Loans and receivables.
    8. Preparation of reconciliations of respective balance sheet accounts of the above.
  6. Assisting with audit requirements, preparation, and collation of documents for audit.
  7. Liaise with internal and external auditors, where necessary.
  8. Involvement in ad hoc projects.

Requirements:
  1. Diploma in Accounting / BCom.
  2. Up to date IFRS knowledge.
  3. Competence with Microsoft Excel.
  4. 2 - 3 years of post-graduate work experience.
  5. Knowledge of insurance industry advantageous but not essential.
  6. Experience with Sage Accpac preferable.
  7. Strong accounting knowledge.
  8. Attention to detail is crucial.
  9. Excellent interpersonal (verbal and written) skills.
  10. Able to work well under pressure.
  11. Time management skills essential.
  12. Team player but able to work independently.
  13. Friendly and professional manner.
  14. Confidence in working with people at all levels in a company.
  15. Comfortable with change.
  16. Innate problem solver.
