Job description

The HR Generalist will oversee HR operations and staff at the designated distribution centers. This role involves supporting and executing HR functions such as recruitment, payroll, performance management, compliance, and employee relations while ensuring HR practices align with company standards. The candidate will also focus on facilitating key HR processes, ensuring policy compliance, and driving strategic initiatives to enhance employee engagement, development, and organizational efficiency.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Staff Oversight and Leadership
  2. Recruitment and Onboarding:
    1. Facilitate interviews and induction processes for all designated DCs.
    2. Act as a recruitment champion by managing hiring for roles at JHB, PLK, and Botswana.
  3. Documentation and Compliance:
    1. Complete and collate employee documents to ensure accuracy and proper record-keeping.
    2. Manage IOD (Injury on Duty) submissions and Department of Labour cases.
    3. Assist with disciplinary inquiries, Department of Labour matters, and CCMA cases.
    4. Ensure adherence to South African labour legislation and the company’s employee relations guidelines and code of conduct.
  4. HR Policies and Procedures:
    1. Review HR policies to ensure consistency across the DCs and align with organizational goals.
    2. Implement and maintain HR policies across all designated DCs.
    3. Assist in designing and improving HR systems and procedures to enhance department efficiency.
  5. Performance Management and Training:
    1. Execute the integrated performance management (IPM) cycle efficiently.
    2. Identify and implement training and development initiatives to upskill employees.
    3. Assist in training and development programs for staff across all DCs.
  6. Employee Relations and Wellness:
    1. Communicate and assist DCs with HR-related matters and queries.
    2. Participate in employee wellness drives and initiatives to enhance engagement and morale.
    3. Initiate and oversee disciplinary hearings when necessary.
  7. Payroll and Leave Administration:
    1. Process payroll using Sage Payroll 300.
    2. Review and ensure the accuracy of payroll files for JHB, PLK, and Botswana.
    3. Manage leave administration for all designated DCs.
  8. Operational Efficiency:
    1. Ensure Employee Self-Service (ESS) systems operate efficiently and resolve issues promptly.
    2. Develop strategies to reduce absenteeism rates.
  9. Collaboration and Support:
    1. Work closely with General Managers at all designated DCs to provide comprehensive HR support.
    2. Travel to DC PLK and other regions as needed for inspections and HR-related support.
  10. Management of Time Attendance Clocking Software:
    1. Oversee the management and supervision of the time attendance clocking software to ensure the system is functional across all designated DCs.
    2. Ensure accurate time and attendance data is available for payroll and reporting purposes.

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Matric Certificate
  2. HR related degree is preferable
  3. Minimum 3–5 years of experience in a generalist HR role
  4. Payroll Processing experience (Sage Payroll 300 experience is advantageous)
  5. Proficient in the Microsoft Suite (advanced in Excel)
  6. Ability to manage HR functions across multiple locations.
