Electrical Estimation & Design Engineer - ECSA - HVAC East Rand

As an Electrical Engineer within our Estimation Department, you will be instrumental in producing precise and timely electrical designs that comply with both internal and external regulatory standards.

This role involves the development of detailed engineering designs, as well as providing support for cost estimation and the preparation of tender documents. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure that all designs are meticulously accurate, error-free, and delivered within project timelines and tender submission deadlines.

This position is well-suited for a dedicated Electrical Engineer who is passionate about delivering high-quality designs and contributing to dependable project estimations.

Key Accountabilities:

1. Read carefully the projects specifications, identify relevant codes and standards to have a clear understanding of the design inputs and ensure conformity to requirements.
2. Plan work to deliver expected output on time based on the priority order set by the supervisor.
3. Perform design modelling, prepare accurate calculation notes and develop detailed designs in area of specialty according to the related design manual and predefined design concept.
4. Prepare and update the materials take-off, ensuring design quantities and specifications do not surpass the allocated budget for the project.
5. Prepare as-built drawings related to the executed work on site and assist project design engineers in developing the Operations & Maintenance Manual for future maintenance work on the project site.
6. Send internal emails and professional letters, attend internal meetings and coordinate with relevant departments to provide necessary technical assistance/information.
7. Conduct internal presentations on technical subjects to enhance presentation skills and share knowledge with colleagues.
8. Provide assistance to other departments and colleagues and direct CAD operators to deliver quality work.
9. Perform QA/QC activities for own, peers, and lower-level designs to detect, analyze, and eliminate discrepancies.
10. Accept comments positively and learn from experiences to increase capability and skill level.
11. Read carefully the tender documents, understand project type and scope of work, and discuss relevant requirements with the estimation team.
12. Prepare the preliminary design of the bid and/or the pre-dimensioning on time as per the tender requirements.
13. Prepare a detailed BOQ to determine and confirm project quantities to be priced.
14. Request quotations in conjunction with the procurement department, analyze and compare received quotations for conformity to specifications.
15. Collaborate with relevant departments to compile the complete project offer, ensuring all technical, financial, and commercial aspects are accurately integrated and aligned with the tender requirements.

Performance Indicators:

1. Ability to identify appropriate design codes and standards.
2. Familiarity with South African codes and standards.
3. Quality of work planning/organization and timely execution of assigned tasks.
4. Conformity of prepared designs to design manual, codes, and standards.
5. Error-free design and timely delivery of calculation notes and as-built drawings.
6. Timely preparation and submission of detailed Bills of Quantities (BOQs).
7. Quality of quotations requested and analyzed for conformity to project specifications.
8. Quality and timeliness of inputs provided for the estimation scope, ensuring accurate project costing.
9. Participation in compiling the final project offer, ensuring all estimation and technical aspects are accurate and aligned with tender requirements.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills Required:

1. B. Engineering (Electrical) degree or equivalent.
2. ECSA membership.
3. Minimum 5 years experience.
4. Understanding of engineering standards.
5. Ability to communicate effectively internally.
6. Good team member with concern for details, effectiveness, efficiency, quality, and safety.
