Tailings Technician

Main Activities and Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

1. Typically, 95% of time spent in the laboratory.
2. Demonstrated competence in working and having effective communication with lab personnel and project teams.
3. Demonstrated competence in identifying safety hazards and reporting OH&S incidents. Aware of WSPS approach to risk management, ethics and safety. Commitment to all associated WSP HSE Lab policies and procedures.
4. Demonstrated competence in all sample preparation techniques and advanced laboratory testing including triaxial, DSS, Consolidation and settling column in accordance with standard and procedures.
5. Proven ability to prepare and review laboratory test certificates.
6. Demonstrate competence in laboratory test software and recording data using both hard-copy templates and computer-based applications (Excel/Word).
7. Demonstrated competence in understanding laboratory test requests and all laboratory sample registration protocols.
8. Demonstrated competence in equipment checks and maintenance. Experience in equipment calibration.
9. Commitment to best laboratory practices and good housekeeping and tidiness essential.
10. Deliver best client outcomes/options which have saved the client costs/time.
11. Experience in applying legislation, standards, guidelines and project specifications.
12. Experience in developing and maintaining client relationships.
13. Experienced in applying QA and OH&S systems, auditing of other more junior staff.
14. Contributes to building the technical capability of others and transferring the technical expertise within the organisation.
15. Developing experience in managing small teams.

Experience, Skills and Organisational Knowledge

1. Ability to take direction and work independently as well as be a team member and collaborate with other lab personnel.
2. Good written and verbal communication skills.
3. Enthusiasm for fieldwork with practical experience (desired).
4. Relevant internal and external SHEQ training including, First Aid, Construction general safety induction, etc.
5. Reliable and committed to producing high-quality work.
6. Time management skills, organizational skills, independent thinking skills, problem-solving and good attention to detail.
7. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and able to schedule and coordinate multiple tasks and assignments.
8. Valid Driver’s License (desired).

1. Matric Certificate and 3-5 years relevant work experience.
2. Valid Driver's License required.
