This role will be for a Senior QS for our Infrastructure division, based in Cape Town.
Job Description
- Estimating and negotiating change orders throughout the construction lifecycle.
- Preparation of feasibility studies.
- Proactively provide Quality control and assurance on documentation.
- Extensive experience in cost management, budgeting, contract administration to ensure financial success of a project.
- Provide estimate and cost planning for budgeting purposes.
- Review and participate with the design services team and general contractor, in the development of the cost estimates and project budgets.
- Communicate or meet with client during the life cycle of the project.
- Prepare written comments to the general contractor’s submissions, including the executive summary.
- Coordinate all sources of cost information for cost discussions and suppliers direct from NPA, subs, quantities from A/Es.
- Inform and drive engineering priorities based on cost impact.
- Work proactively with minimal supervision to resolve costing and variation issues.
- Manage cost checks and carry out valuations on large and small projects. Complete timely, accurate cost checking and valuation processes.
- Participate effectively with post contract cost variances and the change control processes.
- Manage Cost impact / contingency management and commitment tracking logs.
- Prepare funding data presentations and coordinate VE sessions with stakeholders.
- Prepare and present confidently reports to stakeholders.
- Prepare and oversee the preparation of tender documentation including BOQ’s, Data, returnable’s etc. to present to the client and issue to the market for both large and small scale projects.
- Mentoring of staff.
You will also be responsible for:
Pre-Contract
- Developing cost plans and estimates through the design phase, delivering updated cost plans at appropriate design milestones.
- Providing commercial input to design optioneering and input into value engineering exercises.
- Reviewing contractor and subcontractor pricing and leading negotiations on behalf of the client to drive fair contract prices.
- Preparation of project cost estimates and tender documentation for clients.
- Performing quality assurance and control on all aspects of Quantity surveying.
Post-Contract
- Performing quantity surveying, cost controls and change management activities throughout the project lifecycle.
- Ensuring that post-contract cost variances and change control processes are managed effectively.
- Ensuring that cost auditing and valuation work is managed effectively and that a robust process for cost validation is in place.
- Carrying out the production of monthly cost reports for presentation to the client.
- Ensuring that final accounts are negotiated and agreed in a timely manner.
- Compiling as built cost estimate records for benchmarking purposes.
Qualifications
Essential
- Qualified as a professional Quantity Surveyor with membership of an appropriate professional body. SACQSP preferable with 10 or more years experience.
- Relevant successful experience of provision of estimating and/or QS services in a real estate environment to high profile or complex major projects or programmes.
- Knowledge of project management, planning, risk, and investment processes.
- A strong technical cost management and estimating competency is essential.
- Must have knowledge in the use and benefits of cost management systems.
- Good presentation and personal engagement with stakeholders.
Desirable
- Demonstrable experience in managing and leading large teams and successful setting and implementation of business strategy.
- Preferred degree in quantity surveying or associated construction field.
