Environment, Health and Safety Officer
Job Title: EHS Officer – Boksburg Plant - Limited Duration

THE PURPOSE OF THE EHS OFFICER ROLE IS TO:
- Ensure/provide a safe and healthy environment to our people and contractors during construction sites and projects.
- Minimize impacts on the Environment (environmental footprint of operations & management of historical pollution).
- Protect Alstom assets and reduce risks of business interruption resulting from fire and natural catastrophes.
THE MAIN RESPONSIBILITY WILL BE:
- Cooperate with internal resources to achieve EHS objectives.
- Support the Site EHS Manager to perform EHS Risk Assessment and to define appropriate measures to control risks.
- Support the EHS Site Manager to prepare, implement and maintain emergency plans.
- Assist Site EHS Manager to coordinate and control activities with respect to EHS, especially where interfaces are involved with other contractors or operation areas.
- Provide support and advice to site personnel to prevent injury, damage to plant and equipment, fire, and environmental pollution.
- Recognize best practices and good performance. React to violations of regulations and Alstom Standards.
- Advise other Site personnel on all aspects of EHS applicable to site activities.
- Develop Site EHS Management System
- Support the Site EHS Manager to develop, deploy and maintain local procedures and tools aligned with Alstom Standards and international standards (ISO 14001 and ISO45001).
- Ensure Alstom EHS standards and tools are deployed at Site level.
- EHS Compliance
- Assist the Site EHS Manager to ensure compliance of site activities according to the EHS Plan, guidelines, and work instructions.
- Perform EHS legal compliance checks for specific requirements.
- Develop EHS culture on site
- Inform, instruct, and train employees to carry out work in a safe & environment-friendly manner.
- Participate in the implementation of site EHS training programs by providing EHS inductions and ensuring Toolbox meetings are organized.
- Report, Measure & Review
- Support the EHS Site Manager to capture, report, record, investigate, and analyze accidents/incidents to implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Prepare monthly EHS reports and feed EHS reporting system in line with Group reporting requirements.
- Carry out inspections of work areas and conduct EHS audits, reporting any discrepancies.
- Maintenance
- Coordinate maintenance activities for the PPC facility.
- Perform any other ad-hoc activities as per instruction from senior individuals.
- Support site security activities as requested.
The preferred candidate will meet the following requirements:
- Diploma in Safety Management (EHS Related).
- Minimum 5 years working experience as EHS in a manufacturing environment.
- Proven work experience with ISO14001 and ISO45001.
- Deep knowledge of local legal EHS requirements.
- Advanced MS Office skills.
- Valid Driver's license.
- Evidence of presenting safety topics to employees (Train the Trainer).
- Railway knowledge preferable.
- Maintenance experience preferable.
