KEY ROLE:
The role of the HR Officer is to support the HR Business Partners in the delivery of a professional, commercially astute human resources service, to the business. The HR Officer will support the Business Partners with operational people issues, implementing people solutions and listening to/responding to employees.
The role will also support the People, Culture & Engagement team to ensure the smooth delivery of a pro-active administrative and operational HR service to all South African offices, particularly in the area of recruitment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Employee Relations - prepare all relevant documentation, evidence and supporting material for all Disciplinary, Grievance, Absenteeism and Redundancy processes. Facilitate the process to ensure the necessary arrangements, facilities and equipment are in place which includes arranging any meetings and supporting those meetings as required e.g. minute taker;
- General Life Cycle Activities - provide guidance on day to day people activities such as exit interviews, return to work interviews, family leave (maternity, paternity, adoption etc), flexible working requests etc. in accordance with Company procedures;
- Line Manager Guidance – Support the HR Advisors in producing bespoke, sensible and practical guidance documents for Line Managers and ensure these remain relevant in accordance with changing legislation;
- Collaborate, guide and support the team to ensure flawless execution of all activities relating to onboarding activities, employee variations, payroll, benefits information, absence management, policy and process interpretation and implementation;
- Working alongside the specialist teams (communication and L&D) to actively support training delivery and recruitment activities (e.g. job specifications, advertising, screening, interview support etc);
- Support bi-annual and annual events including; career development engagement, salary reviews, benchmarking, employee survey etc;
- Provide a proactive operational HR service to South Africa, deputising for the HR Business Partners in representing the HR function and responsively and positively supporting employees;
- Coach, mentor, guide and influence the HR Administration team, developing their skills and knowledge to enable them to provide an informed service and acting as a behavioural role model;
- Act as a conduit for communication, sharing knowledge, ideas and best practice across the HR function;
- Support and promote teamwork;
- Support the HR Business Partners with countrywide initiatives (such as efficiency improvement programmes, acquisitions, restructuring, contract mobilisations/demobilisations, policy development and implementation etc).

KEY COMPETENCIES AND GENERIC SKILLS:
- An awareness and basic understanding of generalist HR and the implementation of statutory and company policies (family friendly policies, discipline, grievance etc.);
- Experience in building rapport, gaining credibility with line managers and employees, building trust, working in partnership with cross functional teams and to proactively deliver upon commitments and expectations;
- An interest in business, commercial and operational issues, their interdependencies and the impact of these on the people agenda;
- Confident and able to engage with people throughout all levels within the Company, constructively probe, listen, present ideas and opinions and provide feedback, encouraging open and effective two way communication;
- Able to analyse, interpret and communicate data to inform discussions;
- Excellent organisational skills, able to manage and deliver upon a range of activities, including the ability to prioritise your own workload and strong attention to detail;
- Demonstrates a positive proactive attitude, holds themselves accountable and responsible for high quality service delivery;
- Strong IT skills across the Microsoft office packages and a good understanding of HR systems and databases.
Qualifications
- Diploma/B.Tech/B.Degree in Human Resource Management or similar;
- 1 to 3 years’ experience in human resources within a medium sized company; highly competent and experienced in the processing and administration of all HR activities throughout the life cycle, and particularly in recruitment;
- Experience of Sage VIP People is advantageous;
- Registration, or working towards registration, with SA Board for People Practices is advantageous.
