Requirements:

  • Matric plus NQF 7 in Electrical Engineering, Energy Planning and Sustainability with a background in Economics, Statistics, Monitoring and Evaluation or relevant field of study.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience at a middle managerial level working in the Energy field.
  • The recommended candidate will be required to produce his/her SMS Pre-entry certificate as offered by the National School of Governance (NSG) prior to the appointment being made.
  • Competencies: Working knowledge of renewable energy and efficiency implementation; Knowledge of monitoring projects; Ability to evaluate projects and identify strengths and weaknesses; Broad understanding of energy, climate and change environmental issues; Good understanding of political and policy processes; Ability to implement strategic policies; Leadership, planning and organising; Change and Human Resource Management; Strategic management; Project management, implementation and monitoring; Analytical and strategic thinking; Communication and conflict resolution; Results and quality management; Report writing (reports and communiques); Risk and Financial management; Computer literacy (word, MS project, Excel, PowerPoint); Research, innovation and continuous improvement.

Duties:

  • Manage the implementation of the Gauteng Energy Security Strategy.
  • Co-ordinate investor, municipal and sector departments initiatives in renewable and sustainable energy projects.
  • Manage the development of financial models for renewable and sustainable energy projects.
  • Manage the optimal use of available energy resources and the long-term sustainability of the province’s energy sector.
  • Manage the promotion of accessibility to clean and affordable energy sources or services.
  • Manage energy projects ensuring they align with the strategy of the Department and GPG.
  • Manage research on energy efficiency initiatives and identify suitable renewable energy initiatives for the province.
  • Advise on efforts to reduce the province’s contribution to climate change.
  • Manage the Budget of the Directorate.
  • Manage the skills development plan of the Directorate.
  • Manage the PMDS of the Directorate.
  • Manage the audit findings and queries of the Directorate.
  • Facilitate strategic review and planning sessions and the submission of the strategic, operational plans, budget and reports of the programme.
