Job description

As a Digital Strategy Director, you lead and shape the digital strategy for our clients. As a leader in the agency, you will play a key role in defining and executing innovative digital strategies that drive business growth and brand success. This role demands a seasoned professional with a deep understanding of the digital landscape, strong leadership capabilities, and a proven track record of delivering impactful results in an advertising or digital marketing environment.

Skills Required:

Day to Day Management

  1. For all things digital, be the main strategic point of contact for the client, providing informed and insightful recommendations and actively driving the relationship
  2. Responsible for providing leadership and guidance to the digital strategy team on briefs, including kickstarts, reviews and presentation support
  3. Work closely with the Business Director and the Digital Creative Director to maintain quality control of all digital creative and strategic output and to provide oversight thereof

Strategic Development

  • Can anticipate the clients problem-solving needs and proactively put forward strategic solutions that provide guidance and clarity
  • Can facilitate client engagements that unlock strategic & creative solutions
  • Lead strategic thinking on key client briefs supported by the Senior Digital & Content Strategist

Consumer and Industry Trends

  1. Can apply digital marketing principles in lateral ways to problem-solve and enrich the creative brief
  2. Brings critical assessment of benchmark case-studies, and has an ability to easily provide references and learnings that inspire the creative solution
  3. Leverages knowledge of culture, consumer and technology to inspire and champion smart digital solutions

Additional Role Dimensions:

Problem clarification: Defining the communication task and leading the formulation and clarification of the brief with clients.

Insight creation: Develop and evolve insight, research and user frameworks that become fundamental to answering the brief.

Setting the path: Giving inspiration, clarity and confidence to the team about how to approach briefs. Collaborate with Account Management and Creative leads to ensure strategic direction is understood and maintained. Leading the creation of new digital and content strategies across the client business. Understanding and integrating on/offline business, experience and campaign elements.

Ideation: Supporting creative and other disciplines to come up with better ideas, faster. Lead projects and initiatives commanding attention and action to get the best from everyone. Creating and evolving models for the future of digital communication. Drawing upon external sources and discipline experience to inspire and enhance strategies.

Storytelling: Define and refine the ideas. Proving them, communicating them and selling them. Continual evolution of new ways of working and "selling" strategies and ideas. Representing the agency in Marketing Director and C- suite level presentations. Assisting in or leading the creation of proof of concepts where needed.

Executing the work: Supporting creative in the crafting of the experience journey and delivery detail that brings the idea to life with digital expertise and user journey strategy. Assist and inspire and influence senior clients in experimenting with new channels, content and technology. Create recommendations about media spend levels and apportionment. Own the development of a roadmap for digital transformation of communication. Develop communication, and service/experience blueprints. Creates and evolves tools and frameworks to be adopted by other strategists and teams.

Measurement and effectiveness: Assisting in proving if, how and why the work created real value for the business and for the consumer. Show recognised expertise linked to the proven value of ideas. Write and support effectiveness case studies or award entries. Set up projects for integrated evaluation and strategies from the start of the job.

Experience Required:

  1. 10+ years of experience–agency experience is preferable.
  2. Good knowledge of the digital media landscape
  3. Must be PC literate: Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel – preferably with experience working with Chase software.

Qualification Required:

  1. Matric Certificate with college or university exemption.
  2. Marketing or advertising/media qualification advantageous
  3. Relevant certifications (Google Analytics/PMP) a plus

Digital Strategy Director Competencies:

  • Digital Expertise: Deep understanding of the digital landscape, including SEO, SEM, social media, content marketing, programmatic advertising, CRM, and e-commerce.
  • Analytical Mindset: Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and translate insights into actionable strategies.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with creative, media, data analytics, and technology teams to integrate digital strategies across all touchpoints and channels.
  • Performance & Analytics: Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of digital campaigns, and provide actionable insights for continuous improvement.
  • Innovation & Vision: Stay ahead of digital trends and technologies, identifying new opportunities to drive innovation and competitive advantage for clients.
