Key Responsibility Areas :

1. Preventative Maintenance of Vehicles and Equipment: Compile and maintain a comprehensive preventative maintenance plan for all vehicles and equipment at the workplace.
2. Liaise with the Plant Engineer daily, weekly, and monthly regarding changes to the preventative maintenance program.
3. Plan ahead and schedule major services in collaboration with the Plant Engineer and Production Manager and other users of the vehicles and equipment.
4. Schedule analytical inspections and component replacements.
5. Ensure the preventative maintenance program complies with NCT and factory specifications.
6. Ensure correct spares are ordered and arrive on time.
7. Adhere to service levels as per factory specifications.

Breakdowns and in the Field Repairs:

1. Perform repairs (mechanical or otherwise) as required and instructed.
2. Weld and repair cracks on all materials.

Training and People Management:

1. Delegate tasks to the assistant mechanic and the workshop assistant.
2. Assist in training of machine operators and drivers.

Administrative Functions:

1. Complete monthly returns and keep accurate records of all costs / spending.
2. Assist with technical back-up on all equipment utilized in plantation management.
3. Maintain a detailed cost and history for all equipment by obtaining quotations and authorization for parts and services and keeping a record of all costs incurred per piece of equipment.

General:

1. Be on stand-by when required.
2. Take control of tools / assets and be responsible for all NCT tools and equipment.
3. Supply own tools; all specialized tools will be supplied by NCT.

Qualifications:

1. Qualified trade test as Diesel Mechanic.

Prior Training Required:

1. Firefighting.
2. Heavy vehicle driver's license with PDP.
3. Light vehicle driver's license.

Skills Required:

1. Computer literacy: MS (Outlook, Word, and Excel).

Job Specific Technical Skills:

1. Hydraulics, pneumatics, and electronic systems.

Personal Attributes:

1. Good self-manager, organized.

Prior Experience:

1. 8 - 10 years with heavy diesel equipment.

Language Skills:

1. English (speak, read, write).

Working Conditions:

1. Mill-based position.
