For our data centers in the Western Cape, we are looking for a Data Center Security Specialist (DSS) to coordinate our day-to-day security operation. Our ideal candidate is detail-oriented, innovative, and professional. S/he has experience in delighting customers, teamwork, and continuous improvement. The DSS will be responsible for coordinating physical security operations, reviewing, evaluating, and prioritizing requests and tickets, and guiding and influencing the Contract Guard Force and other stakeholders, ensuring local implementation of the cluster strategies into the security operations. S/he will cooperate with Data Center Managers to devise security strategies and improve the overall operational security within our Data Centers. This position is to be 80% operational and 20% tactical. S/he will report to the Cluster Security Manager.

Key job responsibilities

  1. Coordinate day-to-day activities and site security operations
  2. Coordinate with Operations and Safety managers for facility operations
  3. Provide guidance and leadership to contract security provider personnel
  4. Evaluate the contract security provider performance and service delivery and request corrective actions from vendors as needed
  5. Foster working relationships to educate data center stakeholders on false alarm reductions
  6. Extract metrics and observe improvements by analyzing data
  7. Verify Data Center security programs are delivered to meet defined global security standards
  8. Assist in all media integrity-related Programs
  9. Assist in the training of new and existing personnel on behavioral compliance to security policies and procedures
  10. Handle escalations and resolve tasks delegated and/or assigned to the team
  11. Draft reports and prepare presentations on the status of physical security operations
  12. Collaborate with managers in writing and implementing security policies, processes, and procedures based on regional or global security initiatives
  13. Serve as a customer advocate by identifying security-related opportunities and crafting innovative solutions that maintain security standards
  14. Participate in site audits, inspections, and walk-throughs, identifying, discussing, and bringing forward issues and solutions to senior team members

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  1. 1+ year of experience working in a standards-based security and safety professional work environment
  2. Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to read, write, and speak fluently in English
  3. Must be able to travel between local sites as needed and have a valid driver's license: This position requires driving a personal vehicle between company locations regularly

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  1. 1+ year working in an operations, physical security or equivalent environment
  2. 2+ years collecting, analyzing, and utilizing data
  3. Basic knowledge of physical security systems and their operation, including access control, intrusion detection, and video surveillance
  4. Experience with workflow ticketing
  5. Ability to deal with technically challenging situations and ask for guidance when required
  6. Demonstrates emotional intelligence to use mistakes and errors as learning opportunities
  7. Ability to deal with ambiguity in the absence of standard operating procedures, escalating to management as required
  8. Strong attention to details and problem-solving skills
  9. Ability to maintain composure under pressure
  10. 1+ years of demonstrated leadership skills
  11. 1+ years of incident response & management experience
  12. 3+ years working with Microsoft Office tools
  13. Meets/exceeds Amazon's leadership principles requirements for this role
  14. Meets/exceeds Amazon's functional/technical depth and complexity
