Data Scientist, Bellville

We are seeking a Data Scientist for a permanent role based in Bellville, Western Cape.

Applicants are required to meet the following criteria:

1. Relevant degree in Operations Research, Computer Science or Mathematical Science.
2. 3 years’ experience in Data Analysis and Data Science.
3. Experience in logistics, retail and project environment (advantageous).
4. Experience in mathematical model development.
5. Experience in agile methodologies (advantageous).
6. Experience in business requirement specifications and documentation.
7. Experience in Google Cloud Platform, Google BigQuery or similar platforms and tools.
8. Experience in Cloud SQL, SQL, Python and data science toolkits.
9. Advanced MS Office Skills, particularly Excel and Google Workspace.
10. Valid drivers and own transport.

The successful applicant would be responsible for, but not limited to:

1. Working closely with business to identify data science project opportunities that have a measurable value statement.
2. Work closely with data and software teams to shape and enable deployment of fit-for-purpose, robust solutions that will scale across the company’s digital ecosystem.
3. Develop analytics-focused products, using machine learning, natural language processing and mathematical/statistical techniques to develop powerful sciences that deliver business value/impact.
4. Define models to be created and implemented and monitored for accuracy, integrity and robustness.
5. Perform sophisticated data preparation.
6. Apply a comprehensive set of predictive/descriptive modelling techniques to achieve objectives.
7. Identify and manage data development challenges, offer suggestions and deploy solutions.
8. Communicate and present analytical findings, results and reports to stakeholders, using data visualization techniques to deliver business cases.

Salary: R30 000.00 – R40 000.00 per month.
