Our client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Data Migration Specialist to join the team on a contract basis.

This individual will play a pivotal role in the successful migration of data from legacy systems to new platforms, particularly within the banking or financial services sector.

The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of data migration processes, big data environments, and possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Roles and Responsibilities:

1. Lead and manage end-to-end data migration activities for projects, ensuring data is accurately transferred between systems without errors or data loss.
2. Collaborate with business and technical teams to define data migration requirements and design efficient strategies for large-scale data transfers.
3. Execute data migration tasks, including data extraction, transformation, cleansing, mapping, and loading (ETL).
4. Identify and mitigate risks associated with the data migration process, providing recommendations and solutions to overcome potential issues.
5. Conduct data profiling and analysis to ensure data quality, integrity, and accuracy prior to migration.
6. Develop and maintain comprehensive data migration documentation, including technical specifications, workflows, and mapping documents.
7. Perform data validation and reconciliation post-migration to ensure data integrity and consistency across systems.
8. Work closely with data architects, developers, and project managers to ensure that data migration activities align with overall project timelines and objectives.
9. Perform troubleshooting and resolve any issues related to data migration, ensuring minimal disruption to business operations.
10. Provide expertise in managing large volumes of data (Big Data) and ensuring its proper migration between on-premises and cloud environments.
11. Provide training and support to team members and business users during and after the migration process.
12. Assist in the development of automated migration tools to streamline processes and improve efficiency.

Experience and Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
2. Relevant certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate, or other cloud certifications) are a plus.
3. Proven experience (5+ years) in data migration, with a strong focus on large-scale data migrations in complex environments.
4. Expertise in working with Big Data technologies, including Hadoop, Spark, and related platforms.
5. Strong understanding of database systems, including SQL, NoSQL, relational databases, and data warehousing concepts.
6. Experience in the banking or financial services industry, with a deep understanding of industry-specific data needs and regulations.
7. Hands-on experience with data integration, ETL processes, and migration tools (e.g., Informatica, Talend, Microsoft SSIS, or custom scripts).
8. Strong understanding of data quality, data governance, and metadata management.
9. Experience in working with cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and their respective data migration capabilities.
10. Previous experience working with various types of data formats (CSV, JSON, XML, etc.) and databases (Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, etc.).
11. Familiarity with project management methodologies and tools (Agile, Waterfall, etc.).
12. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting abilities.
13. Excellent attention to detail and ability to ensure data integrity throughout the migration process.
14. Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
15. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
16. Strong organizational skills, with the ability to document processes and workflows effectively.
