Data Engineer

Data Engineer position available in Johannesburg.

PBT Group is seeking an experienced Data Engineer with strong expertise in T-SQL & Power BI to develop, optimise, and maintain data solutions.

The ideal candidate will have a solid background in SQL-based ETL development, data modelling, and reporting, with exposure to Ab Initio being a beneficial advantage.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop, enhance, and maintain robust data pipelines and ETL processes.
• Design and implement optimised SQL queries, stored procedures, and functions.
• Work with large datasets, ensuring high data integrity, performance, and reliability.
• Develop interactive and insightful reports and dashboards using Power BI.
• Collaborate with business and technical teams to define and implement data solutions.
• Optimise database performance, indexing, and query tuning for efficiency.
• Perform data validation, transformation, and integration across multiple sources.
• Support data governance, quality, and compliance initiatives.
• Exposure to Ab Initio would be beneficial for advanced ETL processing.

Requirements:

• Experience: Minimum 5 years in Data Engineering / SQL Development.
• Technical Expertise:
• T-SQL (Microsoft SQL Server) – strong proficiency
• Power BI – report development & data visualisation
• ETL development and data pipeline management
• Performance tuning & query optimisation
• Data modelling & warehousing concepts
• Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP) is advantageous
• Ab Initio exposure is beneficial but not mandatory
