Data Engineer

Responsible for delivering central data management, governance and reporting.

POSITION INFO :

Our client in the centre of Pretoria, a large financial institute has a vacancy for a Data on a contract basis.

The Company has embarked on a multi-year IT transformational programme to renew the Finsurv IT landscape, known as the 1FinSurv Programme.

The incumbent will be responsible for delivering central data management, governance and reporting within the Financial Surveillance Division (FinSurv), without impacting operational procedures or systems. The successful candidate will support projects and initiatives that span across the organisation.

Key responsibilities include:

1. Designing and implementing data strategies and systems through collaboration with IT, EIM (Enterprise Information Management), and Business teams to create and maintain the data architecture that drives various initiatives.
2. Building infrastructure to automate high volumes of data delivery and creatively solving data volume and scaling challenges.
3. Contributing to the design and architecture of innovative solutions to difficult problems.
4. Working with team and stakeholders to continually assess and redefine the data technology stack to support changing data patterns and business use cases.
5. Bridging the gaps between Data teams and Business by collaborating with all parties to understand data needs.
6. Building the infrastructure with IT required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a variety of sources using SQL and ‘big data’ technologies.
7. Collaborating with IT to source and load a wide range of data into the data lake for use by analysts and developers.
8. Developing and enhancing the data ingestion framework using specified toolsets and seeking techniques to ensure high quality and confidence in data.
9. Assembling large, complex data sets that meet functional and non-functional business requirements.
10. Identifying, designing, and implementing internal process improvements, automating manual processes, and optimizing data delivery.
11. Liaising between technical teams and business stakeholders to foster inter-departmental coordination.
12. Engaging with stakeholders to understand their data practices and managing expectations related to data governance (Quality, Accessibility, Ownership, and Security).
13. Identifying data quality concerns, conducting root cause analysis, and providing feedback to the FinSurv Data Governance Board (DGB).
14. Becoming a trusted advisor to stakeholders, influencing decision making by providing guidance on data quality practices.
15. Maintaining a thorough understanding of the business and data strategy, and identifying opportunities for improvement initiatives.
16. Training other employees within FinSurv on how to access the Data Ecosystem and utilize its contents effectively.
