The business area of Ports Solutions focuses and offers service solutions and maintenance for all crane brands, for port equipment and machine tools; this includes the repair, maintenance and service of our customers' lifting equipment, service inspection contracts, refurbishment and modernization projects, installation, testing and certification of harbour cranes and hoists.

We are the original service provider for both Konecranes and Demag equipment. Right now, we are recruiting a Service Technician to join our team based in Pinetown.

Working in our Ports Solutions business division, this role will be responsible for executing and supporting the inspections, repairs, modernizations and installation on harbour cranes and related components and equipment; except for those requiring compliance inspection by an accredited person. As our Service Technician, key roles and responsibilities will include:

1. Installs, inspects, repairs, services, and upgrades equipment according to instructions.
2. Perform scheduled maintenance on customer installations to ensure that equipment continues to perform reliably.
3. Maintains accurate service records so that the performance of equipment can be monitored.
4. Acts as the day-to-day interface with customers, reports faults and findings, and makes recommendations.
5. Generates sales leads and operative quoting to the company through daily work and interaction with the customer - engages actively with the client.
6. Ensure accurate and timely administration of relevant documentation such as service or inspection reports, timesheets, and orders.
7. Communicates information on equipment problems or potential enhancements timeously to the relevant persons.
8. Compile and maintain safety files as required as per regulatory, compliance and customer requirements.
9. Performs all prescribed safety procedures, point of work risk assessment at every job and site.
10. Adhere to safety procedures both on the company and customer premises wherever work is conducted.
11. To be fully aware of and comply with current responsibilities and requirements of the relevant OHS Acts, Regulations and applicable company Policies / Procedures.
12. To ensure compliance with the IMS, by supporting the maintenance of all Quality System procedures, administration of the internal Audit program, corrective actions and customer feedback registers.
13. Report all hazards, incidents and injuries in accordance with legislation and company reporting procedures.
14. Participate in programs and assessments to improve health and safety in the workplace.
15. Execute all functions in line with the applicable delegation of authority.
16. Other tasks assigned by line manager.

Ideally, we are looking for candidates who have the following skills and attributes:

1. Qualification / Education: Grade 12 (NQF level 4) or related trade qualification.
2. Valid driver's license.
3. Skills & Knowledge: 3 - 5 years work experience in a similar environment.
4. Read blueprints, schematics and understand technical data.
5. Use hand tools and trade type tools.
6. Experience on harbour cranes.
7. Experience on Invertor Drives and PLCs.
8. Must be able to work in confined spaces; elevated areas and at heights.
9. Must be able to travel locally and outside SA for operational requirements.
10. Proficiency with MS Office applications e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
11. Thinks in terms of profit and loss.

13. Takes responsibility and drives performance.
14. Makes timely, well-informed, effective decisions.
