JOB PURPOSE

To ensure the maximum plant availability, reliability and efficiency by providing the instrumentation and control support for the hardware, software and interfaces installed and used on site.

WHAT WILL YOUR MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES BE

  1. Performs instrumentation maintenance activities associated with process plant, packaging plant, palletizing plant, utilities and facilities.
  2. Monitors daily downtime and institutes corrective action plans to prevent recurrences of breakdowns.
  3. Calibrates, repairs and maintains control gear/instrumentation and associated equipment to ensure operation within set standards.
  4. Performs root cause analysis to address asset performance problems and/or reduce cost.
  5. Maintains PLCs and SCADA systems and networks (hardware and software) and performs changes/modifications as required.
  6. Continuously evaluates the process control philosophy and initiates improvement actions in order to achieve asset performance targets.
  7. Implements continuous improvement on all electronic equipment in the plant.
  8. Assists in commissioning of modifications/projects.
  9. Ensures proper documentation of changes/modifications and performs internal audits.
  10. Fault finding and repair of electronic systems to card level.
  11. Fault finding and repairs of electronic cards down to component level.
  12. Ensures availability of spares for all electronic/control systems in the plant.
  13. Accurately and timely reports process equipment deviations to stakeholders to meet/improve equipment availability and reliability targets.
  14. Ensures proper back-up of all PLC programs and maintains records of all upgrades.
  15. Ensures the safe operations of process control systems.
  16. Audits control system equipment.
  17. Resolves daily plant instrumentation and PLC/Software issues and completes root cause analysis.
  18. Ensures all back-up software is up to date and process control systems on the plant are functional.
  19. Calibration of process equipment and conducts required testing and safety checks on all instrumentation equipment.
  20. Conducts all scheduled maintenance within required timeframes.
  21. Performs all emergency electronic maintenance.
  22. Updates and reviews documentation relating to work done and/or changes in original specifications.
  23. Signs off on alternative systems suppliers based on equipment performance.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO SUCCEED

  1. National Diploma (or equivalent qualification i.e. N6 or T4) in Electronic Engineering and a valid trade test in Electronics or Instrumentation/Controls.
  2. 3 years solid Instrumentation and Control experience working in an FMCG environment is essential.
  3. Must have proficient coding experience in either Allen Bradley or Siemens S7 is essential.
  4. Allen Bradley and Siemens S7 project integration experience and working on both systems concurrently will be an advantage.
  5. SAP Production model/flow experience will be an advantage.
  6. In-depth working knowledge and experience on what the making & packing process activities entail & how the products move around in the factory.
  7. Change and develop PLC programs.
  8. Extensive PLC Troubleshooting and Programming experience.
  9. 3-5 years working knowledge and experience in High Speed Packaging Equipment.
  10. Interpret data, identify problems, and formulate proper decisions.
  11. Understand interaction of equipment and systems, and diagnose mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic problems.
  12. Understand interaction of equipment and systems, and diagnose and repair electrical problems.
  13. Express ideas clearly (verbal and written) and work from verbal and written instructions, manuals, wiring diagrams, work orders and specifications.
  14. Generate and analyze reports, charts and KPIs dealing with addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
  15. Computer literate with knowledge of MS Office and maintenance software.
  16. Must have strong knowledge and experience in control systems – SCADA and PLCs, ACDC drives and SCADA systems.
  17. Extensive knowledge of instrumentation, HAZOP studies, PIDs and quality standards.
  18. Strong PLC programming skills and thorough knowledge of operator interfaces and Wonderware.
  19. Working experience with industrial communication methodologies (RS-, ASI, Devicenet, Ethernet).
  20. Extensive experience with operator interfaces; and energy devices such as drives; servo drives; thyristors; soft starters etc.
