Responsibilities:
Serve as the responsible appointee under General Machinery Regulation 2.1 in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993
Oversee GMR 2.7(a) appointees, ensuring full compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Act requirements
Promote and enforce occupational health and safety standards across operations
Conduct risk assessments and implement control measures to mitigate hazards
Ensure all machinery adheres to the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations
Maintain and manage statutory machinery records in accordance with legal requirements
Oversee risk management processes for service providers and contractors
Investigate incidents, identify root causes, and implement preventative actions
Lead the safety committee, driving safety initiatives and compliance
Oversee and manage site-specific projects to ensure operational efficiency
Contribute to the development and execution of planned and preventative maintenance strategies to optimize plant, vehicle, and equipment performance
Assist in the procurement and design of machinery to meet operational and safety standards
Implement equipment upgrades and improvements to enhance performance
Requirements:
A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical engineering
Government Certificate of Competency – Government Ticket (GCC) essential
Minimum 5 years’ experience in maintenance and/or engineering
Proficiency in project management and total quality management principles is advantageous
Demonstrate strong leadership, decision-making, and motivational skills
