OVERVIEW: Our client, a growing cannabis company located in the Eastern Cape region is looking for a Chief Operations Officer with proven leadership experience for their cannabis manufacturing/farm and production facility to oversee the daily operations of the company and the work of executives (IT, Marketing, Finance etc.). The COO is responsible for ensuring all aspects of operations run smoothly every day and addressing any issues that may arise.

JOB TITLE: Chief Operations Officer (Cannabis Industry)

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Leads the strategic marketing efforts, including the development and implementation of a cohesive marketing strategy across the enterprise.
  2. Develop operating procedures, KPIs, and the correct culture for accountability, growth, and entrepreneurialism.
  3. Provide a critical interface between the field sales organization and product development/engineering.
  4. Work closely with Human Resources to implement and refine company policies and procedures.
  5. Guiding, directing, and evaluating the work of management and executive team members.
  6. Monitoring the competitive landscape and attending industry events to stay abreast of new initiatives and ways to stay ahead.
  7. Accountable for the operational budgets and measurement and effectiveness of all operational processes – internal and external.
  8. Provides timely, accurate, and complete reports on the operating condition of the Company.
  9. Oversees supply chain and demand planning.
  10. Reviews inventory for both manufactured and 3rd party products and sets expectations for planning and utilization.
  11. Provides strategic input to evaluate potential alliances, acquisitions and mergers, and new lines of service.
  12. Compliance and Licensing.
  13. Product QC and Testing.
  14. Analyze systems and create better systems.
  15. Write reports and submit reports to CEO/CHAIRMAN in all matters of importance.
  16. Participate in expansion activities (investments, corporate alliances, etc.).
  17. Manage all relationships with partners/vendors.

EXPERIENCE and QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field is required.
  2. Cannabis or pharmaceutical or agro-processing management experience (min. 3 years would be a recommendation).
  3. Experience managing an entire company/department/business unit.
  4. Must have the ability to initiate proposals, negotiate contracts, and close deals.
  5. Must possess strong business management, analytical, and organizational skills.
  6. Excellent written, oral, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  7. Highly organized with a strong sense of urgency to meet deadlines.
  8. Ability to multi-task, manage projects, and work within deadlines.
  9. Team player with strong attention to detail.
  10. Must pass background checks.
  11. Experience in fundraising.
  12. Working knowledge of IT/Business Infrastructure and MS Office.
  13. Outstanding organizational and leadership skills.
  14. Aptitude in decision-making and problem solving.
