The successful applicant will be appointed as the Chief Information Officer (CIO) of a micro insurer and authorised financial services provider based in Cape Town, South Africa. The successful applicant will be reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

Summary: Roles and Responsibilities

IT Strategy

  • Develop and implement the overall IT strategy aligned with the organization's business goals.
  • Ensure that technology initiatives support and enhance the overall business strategy.

Information Security

  • Oversee the development and implementation of strategies to protect the organization's information assets. This includes cybersecurity measures, data privacy, and compliance with relevant regulations and standards.

IT Governance

  • Establish and enforce IT policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Ensure that IT practices align with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Provide guidance on IT governance to support overall corporate governance.

Digital Transformation

  • Lead efforts to leverage technology for digital transformation. Identify opportunities to use technology to improve business processes, enhance customer experiences, and drive innovation.

User Support and Training

  • Ensure that end-users receive adequate support and training to effectively use IT systems.
  • Address user concerns and feedback to improve the overall user experience.

Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery

  • Develop and maintain plans to ensure business continuity in the event of IT disruptions or disasters.
  • Implement strategies to minimize downtime and data loss.

Essential Requirements

  • Grade 12 or similar qualification is essential.
  • BSc/BA in Computer Science or related field.
  • ±5 years as a CIO with strategic alignment
  • Minimum 3 years of leadership and managerial skills.
  • Minimum 5 years IT work experience required.
  • Computer literacy: Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel at an advanced level.
  • Fluent and proficient in English, additional language(s) will be advantageous.

Skills and Competencies

  • Excellent Communication skills and the ability to interact with users and explain technical concepts in a clear manner.
  • Function well under pressure, time management, problem-solving and creativity, critical thinking, and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to work independently as well as the ability to work well in a team and collaborate with other IT professionals.
  • Function under pressure, have professional presentation and approach, detail orientated, high ethical standards, a desire to learn and the ability to work to strict deadlines.
