The Chief Engineer is responsible for maintaining the entire hotel facility, including the physical building structure, all plant and FF&E, and related equipment in accordance with energy conservation and preventative maintenance programs. Ensure that all legal requirements are complied with, and that budgetary goals are met. The position is also responsible for the safety and security of guests and associates of the hotel, especially in relation to Fire & Life Safety, Evacuation, and Security issues. Ensure full compliance with, and implementation of Fire & Life Safety Legislation, plus Corporate and Hotel policies and procedures.
- Conduct regular walk-arounds, visually assessing the safe and efficient maintenance and operation of the physical structure(s) of the hotel and spa; all mechanical, electrical, HVAC systems, and any other related equipment.
- Verify completion of all routine maintenance on public spaces, meeting rooms, ballrooms, outlets, back of house spaces, and external areas.
- Assist in hiring, training, and development of all staff in the Engineering Department.
- Adhere to all corporate purchasing policies and controls, including outside contractor bids, budgets, and schedules.
- Maintain effective Energy Management and Preventive Maintenance programs.
- Inform the General Manager and senior managers regarding the specific and overall condition of the building structure(s), related systems, and equipment.
- Manage the day-to-day activities of the Engineering team.
- Prepare annual R&M Budget, Utilities Budget, and Capital Budget, and monitor to ensure costs are within budgeted limits.
- Prepare technical data, bidding, project work, alterations for the property, having knowledge of building regulations and codes.
- Prepare, update, and implement the Training matrix within the department.
- Design, maintain and ensure the planned preventative maintenance program for the building, plant, and equipment.
- Ensure work schedules are prioritized in accordance with guest needs.
- Ensure that Maximo is fully utilized by the team and hotel departments.
- Responsible for reviewing, revising, updating, and implementing Security and Safety procedures.
- Conduct regular Fire Safety inspections within the buildings.
- Supervise and maintain the Key systems within the hotel and spa.
- Implement and actively supervise the hotel's energy management programs.
- Ensure all Fire, and Health & Safety equipment are fully maintained.
- Control and train the Hotel Fire Team and liaise with the Training Manager.
- Ensure work practices adhere to Company and Statutory Legislation.
- Manage all activities within the engineering function to Company policy.
- Ensure reporting of any incidents/accidents are fully completed.
- Record necessary data to prepare monthly reports.
- Ensure daily data collection; work orders are allocated and completed on time.
- Ensure daily team meetings are chaired by Chief Engineer or Assistant Chief Engineer.
- Complete Accor trainings and participate in quality initiatives.
- Knowledge of and compliance with Accor minimum standards.
- Diligence in prevention of wastage; maintaining and promoting Hotel's environmental policies.
- Recruit, Train and Develop all engineers as per the Training Matrix.
- Review, update, implement and train all associates on Fire Safety, Health & Safety, Security procedures.
- Motivate team and seek continuous improvement of policies and service practices.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Construction preferred.
Five to seven years in a major hotel, hospital, or building, in a managerial/supervisory capacity.
Requires good communication skills, both verbal and written.
Must have thorough knowledge of all types of mechanical equipment, plumbing, and electrical systems.
Must possess good computer skills, with knowledge of accounting programs and budgetary analysis.
Working knowledge of occupational safety and health, wage and hour issues, and labour relations.
