Our organization is URGENTLY seeking to fill the role of Catering Unit Manager in the retirement sector. The ideal candidate must possess exceptional leadership skills, be able to thrive in a fast-paced environment and exhibit an out of the box thinking approach.
The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring the quality of the food, ensuring service standards are met and making sure that the business unit performs well. They will also be required to assist with daily cooking tasks so a chef qualification is required.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Discuss catering arrangements;
- Cooking and preparation of meals;
- Plan menu and communicate with staff;
- Daily costing sheets to be completed;
- Supervise the purchase, storage and issuing of stock;
- Supervise provision of all crockery, cutlery, detergents, kitchenware, etc.;
- Adequate stock control and security;
- Record keeping of payments, expenses, temperature logs, safety & hygiene documentation;
- Plan, coordinate and supervise activities of staff in dining room, kitchen and other areas;
- Manage staff, training and time schedules;
- Make sure that the dining room, kitchen, storage facilities and other work areas are kept clean;
- Attend to complaints concerning food and service.
Candidate Requirements:
- Matric certificate
- Relevant tertiary qualification in hospitality with experience in the catering sector
- Minimum of 3 years of Chef and Catering Management experience;
- Good people management skills;
- Good knowledge of food safety & hygiene practices;
- Good knowledge of stock and cost control;
- Good knowledge of menu planning;
- Good knowledge of roles and responsibilities within the unit.
