Business Development Manager - Wine & Alcohol

Our client is a family owned and run export trading business, trading since 1972. They specialise in the export of FMCG's, fruit and vegetables, wines and building materials to 55 countries globally.

PURPOSE OF ROLE:

They are seeking a target driven Business Development Manager, experienced in Export Trading of Wine and Alcohol to join the team in the role of Business Development Manager. The purpose of the successful incumbent is to create profitable sales growth for the company and to expand the number of customers. Responsible to develop compelling and persuasive pitches to attract new customers to purchase and to encourage existing customers to expand on their existing basket.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

1. Expand the number of customers.
2. Close a deal - Successfully negotiate a trade (sale) using negotiation and salesman's skills.
3. Responsible to develop compelling and persuasive pitches to attract new customers to purchase and to encourage existing customers to expand on their existing basket.
4. Meet or Exceed Performance against budget.
5. Seek and identify opportunities in the market.
6. Identifying opportunities and expanding customer base.
7. Maintaining existing business.
8. Maintain a high level of service to clients through relationships and relationship building.
9. Logistics - making sure the sales go through and have the required follow up.
10. Debtors - making sure debt is being collected in a timeous manner.
11. Trip & meeting preparation.
12. Communication - supplier feedback.
13. Communication - client feedback.
14. Internal communication & reporting.
15. Achieve profit budgets which the candidate would annually set with the approval of the MD. Developing plans for growth and forecasting sales targets.
16. Comply with the regulations of the various markets.
17. Comfortably work within the company's logistical and financial controls.
18. Project Manage and attendance of trade shows, industry and other marketing events.

MINIMUM ROLE REQUIREMENTS:

Experience:

1. 3 years + experience and knowledge of wine sales in an export environment with a track record of meeting or exceeding targets.
2. Strong experience sales with a record of opening new accounts.

Skills:

1. Strong Knowledge of wine and spirits.
2. Incoterms 2020.
3. Qlikview/Qliksense analytics experience in unveiling insights and responsive action.
4. Outstanding networking, social selling, relationship building, sales skills and the ability to persuade other people.
5. Commercial awareness and business acumen, objection handling, presentation skills, negotiation skills.
6. Business, research and data analysis skills to identify potential areas for improvement. Consistent and accurate report writing.
7. Mathematical understanding and ability to analyse and interpret figures and business information.
8. Customer-centric with excellent presentation skills and confidence. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
9. Ability to build rapport with excellent negotiation skills and Excellent business acumen.
10. Self-starter with plenty of initiative to innovate, change or develop old ideas into new opportunities.
11. Handling multiple projects, assignments and duties (organized and meticulous). Project management and timely execution within budget.
12. Ability to work independently and as part of overall team structure. Excellent communicator that motivates and empowers others to stretch themselves and reach high goal.

Qualifications:

1. Matric
2. Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), Marketing or Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com)
3. WSET or Sommelier Accreditation (Junior or Full) or similar

Operational:

1. Valid passport
2. Clear criminal and credit
3. Valid Drivers License
4. The position would require the candidate to travel to the allocated Market / country at least once every 6 weeks and spend a period of approximately 10 days seeing customers and extending / developing our current business.

Package & Remuneration:

1. Salary will be market related and dependent on experience.
2. Monthly salary plus a commission from sales.
