Summary of the Job
This role will be part of the Orthopaedic Management Team responsible for owning the SA business plan and achieving business goals. It is a national role and will be based in either Gauteng or Cape Town. The Business Development Manager: Robotic Assisted Surgery will be responsible for leading and executing the sales and marketing efforts of the VELYS platform. Developing sales strategies, delivering on sales targets, coordinating marketing activities, establishing pricing strategies, and ensuring effective cross-functional collaboration. Will also be responsible for building relationships with key accounts and provides clinical/technical support. The goal is to position VELYS as a market leader in knee reconstruction, optimizing sales performance while meeting business objectives.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Responsible for the development & execution of Velys sales and marketing strategy in close partnership with Functional Business Partners (Governmental Affairs, Communication, Prof Ed, Commercial Ed, HE&R, Finance/Analytics, Pricing, Regulatory, Supply Chain and Quality).
- Monitor market trends and dynamics, making timely adjustments to strategies to optimize sales performance and market penetration.
- Developing and executing of product workshop activities and regional conferences to promote VELYS, ensuring maximum engagement with stakeholders.
- Establish and oversee a competitive pricing strategy for VELYS in collaboration with the Pricing Department, balancing business objectives with market competitiveness.
- Analyse market data and industry trends to inform pricing decisions and necessary adjustments for the VELYS platform.
- Develop financial Go-To-Market (GTM) models for VELYS in collaboration with EMEA finance, legal, and Healthcare Compliance (HCC) teams, adapting strategies to market developments.
- Lead the negotiation process with hospital directors and purchasing departments to secure contracts, ensuring all details are aligned with business goals.
- Provide clinical and technical support on Velys Robotic Assisted Surgery procedure, including providing recommendations about new features and product improvements.
- Improve the efficiency and effectiveness of customer delivered health care services through in-service education and training where appropriate.
- Track and report on sales performance metrics and provide insights on the effectiveness of strategies implemented, facilitating data-driven decision-making.
- Achieving national sales growth targets through CREDO based leadership.
- On time and accurate tender/RFQ submissions private and public.
- Develops influential relationships with National KOLs and decision makers within national customers, distributors, academic centre of excellence.
- Establish competitive product and market insights. Utilise market intelligence to ensure appropriate strategies and tactics are implemented.
- Driving market research with Commercial Excellence partners and analytics to gain insights, prioritize resources and plan portfolio tactics, bringing the voice of customer to all that we do.
- Working compliantly and within HCC and regulatory guidelines to achieve business goals.
- Regular travel required.
Qualifications
Qualification & Experience
- BA/BS required; MA/MBA preferred.
- Minimum 5 years knowledge of and experience in selling/marketing Orthopedic products, advanced knowledge in knee arthroplasty preferred.
- Working knowledge and understanding of Robotic Assisted Knee Surgery.
- Excellent commercial acumen and negotiation skills, with a successful track record in contract negotiation with healthcare institutions; Capital sales experience preferred.
- Strong analytical skills to interpret market data and inform strategic decisions.
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders effectively.
- Working knowledge of both private and government sector for medical devices.
- Effective in setting and delivering on business goals.
- A self-starter who is agile and can work under pressure.
- Experience in strategy design and development.
- Experience with Excel and report writing.
- The ability to collaborate with all levels of management and influence decision-making across a matrix environment.
- Demonstrated personal integrity and ability to deal with sensitive issues with tact, diplomacy and judgment while maintaining complete discretion and confidentiality.
