Job description

A well-established casket manufacturing company seeks to employ a Business Development Manager.

Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct market research and identify customers, potential business development and opportunities for expansion.
  2. Develop an in-depth knowledge of the company’s products and value proposition to negotiate with stakeholders.
  3. Build strong, healthy, lasting relationships with customers and service providers.
  4. Identify business strengths and customer needs and requirements by conducting market analysis and research.
  5. Maintain and retain a database of clients (existing, referrals, leads, prospects) on the CRM and Sage systems.
  6. Negotiate and close agreements with customers and hand over to Sales Managers as and when required.
  7. Assist in overcoming potential technical barriers.
  8. Manage and give support to Sales Managers and teams.
  9. Analyze competitor and market data metrics to leverage into expanding the customer base.
  10. Effectively manage sales budgets to ensure delivery of targets and goals.
  11. Development and implementation of new policies, processes and procedures for effective and efficient sales operations.
  12. Collate and complete sales forecasts, sales activity reports and presentations in a timely manner.
  13. Develop sales projects and activities to grow and improve business.
  14. Conduct customer surveys, price and product benchmarking, market and industry analysis.
  15. Plan and implement strategic initiatives to attend to gaps identified during market and industry analysis.
  16. Monitor and evaluate debtors account and query management.
  17. Drive a new sales training approach focusing on the subject matter that will position the sales team to meet key objectives.
  18. Provide direction and strategy using analytics to generate new business and maintain existing accounts, driving sales & profit in a nominated large market/region.
  19. Active Sales Account management, development and profitability.
  20. Identify potential new business opportunities through consultation and cooperation with operational management, planned prospecting, leads, cold calling, tender notices.
  21. Arrange and conduct meetings with new and existing business prospects, in conjunction with operational management where appropriate, to market SAFS products.
  22. Conduct / arrange site surveys to identify risks and develop appropriate solutions to meet customer needs.
  23. Prepare and submit sales proposals to prospective customers. Where necessary, prepare and conduct sales presentations.
  24. Monitor and evaluate the Sage and CRM Systems to ensure the system is constantly updated with required information of new and existing customers.
  25. Effective reporting on Sales and Marketing activities to the Management Board.
  26. Prepare and submit monthly reports to the CEO which should include product, customer and market analysis, needs and demands with recommendations and measures to be implemented to mitigate risk and gain competitiveness in the market.
  27. Business planning, reporting, data analytics, market research, sales quota setting and management, sales process optimization, sales program implementation, sales force incentive compensation design and administration, sales force recruiting and management reporting.
  28. Designing, compiling, and implementing strategic plans, sales processes, market analysis and research, lead generation processes, customer needs analysis, product demand analysis, price and product benchmarking, industry analysis, budgeting processes and all other sales related activities.
  29. Proactively monitoring and maintaining high levels of quality, accuracy, and process consistency in the sales environment.
  30. Establishing sales objectives and goals and developing and implementing processes for successful achievement.
  31. Working closely with sales management to inspect sales processes quality and prioritize opportunities for improvement.
  32. Assist sales management in understanding process bottlenecks and inconsistencies.
  33. Facilitate an organization of continuous process improvement.
  34. Provide input to senior leadership in the development and administration of sales incentive compensation programs.
  35. Design complex plans tied to budgets & strategies, performance data capture against targets, and payment execution.
  36. Collaborate with senior executive team to understand the overall business strategy.
  37. Forecast and budgeting of the annual, quarterly, and monthly sales plans to ensure the achievement of yearly goals.
  38. Review and analyze financial reports and statements to identify sales inefficiencies.
  39. Analyze markets for product penetration and availability to plan and measure productivity and profitability.
  40. Manage successful sales teams and ensure that the teams consistently meet or exceed daily, monthly and yearly sales performance metrics.
  41. Work with other function leads to create and maintain a world-class sales and operational culture, focused on delivering results by providing ongoing coaching and development of Sales Managers and Sales teams.
  42. Consistently ensure that business is conducted with integrity at all times and behavior aligns with company values.
  43. Responsible for the development and implementation of new processes and procedures for effective and efficient operations.
  44. Provide leadership in the development of continuous evaluation of short and long-term strategic financial objectives.
  45. Develop customer-centric capability within the sales teams.
  46. Demonstrate consistent application of internal procedures.
  47. Plan and prioritize, demonstrating abilities to manage competing demands.
  48. Plan and manage change and transformation effectively.
  49. Demonstrate flexibility in balancing achievement of own objectives with abilities to understand and respond to organizational needs.
  50. Develop and maintain effective relationships with existing clients and identifying potential new clients within the industry.
  51. Plan and coordinate sales activities, events, trade shows, conferences with marketing activities to ensure that both departments are working together to achieve common goals.
  52. Develop strategies for improving sales performance through increased sales and service delivery.
  53. Analyze data from various sources—including metrics from CRM software, Sage Evolution, website statistics, call logs, emails, etc.—to identify trends or opportunities for improvement.
  54. Analyze data and market trends to identify new business opportunities and optimize existing ones.
  55. Monitor individual and team performance against KPIs, taking corrective action when necessary.
  56. Attend trade shows and industry events as needed, representing the company.
  57. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of competitor products, prices and strategies.
  58. Negotiate contracts with clients and service providers.
  59. Prepare and deliver presentations to upper management on a regular basis.
  60. Manage the sales budget, ensuring expenditures remain within allocated limits.
  61. Stay up to date with new product launches and ensure sales teams are kept informed.
  62. Provide timely and effective solutions aligned with client’s needs.
  63. Liaise with marketing and product development departments to ensure brand consistency.
  64. Manage and control sales operations.
  65. Carry out any lawful instruction given to you by a senior.

Educational Requirements:

  1. Grade 12
  2. Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Business Administration or Sales Management
  3. Good command of the English language
  4. Extensive experience in sales and customer service
  5. Strategic implementation and development
  6. Goal and target setting
  7. Performance management

A minimum of three years of responsible leadership experience in management.
