Business Development Consultant Sfg Engineering Services

MAIN PURPOSE
The main purpose of this position is to actively support our focus on opportunities for Energy Solutions Division and Group Business Development in the allocated geographical areas of responsibility.

The main focus will be on generator sales; however, the other solutions on offer through Energy Solutions Division must also be promoted.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Assist with technical queries.
2. Continuously improve internal systems and procedures.
3. Monitor engineering developments and new projects within the engineering and energy sectors.
4. Sales and Business Development: Energy solutions and generator sales in the existing Cape Town area (main focus) as well as non-coastal branch customer base.
5. Strategically increase Generator Sales and Business Development in the allocated geographical areas of responsibility.
6. This will include assistance in meeting quote and tender deadlines and meeting sales targets.
7. Plan, develop and implement (in conjunction with management) strategies to increase turnover and meet sales targets.
8. This will include identifying appropriate local business support channels in the allocated geographical areas.
9. Offer generator solutions based on selection criteria in design and proposals that are in line with the overall company product and service complement.
10. Plan energy solutions and generator sales related activities, supported through formal sales presentations.
11. Plan the appropriate amount of time spent in large cities, focusing on best growth strategies and sales opportunities.
12. Assist, when requested, with Energy Solutions Business Development in other areas of Africa.
13. Identify, communicate and assist in the sales process for opportunities involving Energy Solutions where required and requested.
14. Participate in exhibitions and trade shows, when requested, for Energy Solutions Division.
15. Cold calling on new customers.
16. Establish and maintain strong customer relationships.
17. Assist in providing high levels of service, thereby ensuring customer satisfaction.
18. Support activities within the company to ensure commitments to customers are kept.
19. Assist in conducting regular calls to obtain sales feedback and support the establishment of new opportunities.

Proposals

1. Liaise with customers to understand their energy constraints and requirements.
2. Receive and process customer enquiries in line with the customers' technical requirements.
3. Participate in site inspections / tender briefings to gather more information around the enquiry opportunity.
4. Prepare conceptual designs in accordance with customer specifications as a basis for cost calculations.
5. Define a detailed scope of work to ensure a high accuracy costing exercise can be completed and a suitable offer presented.
6. Liaise with the engineering department and partake in formulating the best possible solution to meet customer requirements.
7. Review customer specifications to ensure compliance.
8. Assist in performing electrical and mechanical calculations as required.
9. Compile proposals in the event of high RFQ intake.
10. Compile weekly reports indicating the status of all proposals in progress.
11. Provide feedback on all proposals submitted on a weekly basis.
12. Provide detailed up-to-date feedback in the existing sales pipeline management tools (Quote Register, etc.).

Mentoring and Training Guidance

1. Responsible for Mentoring, Training and Guidance in terms of Generator application engineering, Power Plants and factors influencing sales.
2. Assist in generator application engineering training, where required to enhance staff skills development.
3. Supplement the Projects and Product department with mentoring, training and guidance for technical design, proposals and proper identification of customer requirements with solution orientation.
4. Participate in the environment for Management, Team Leaders and Supervisors to move to higher levels of effectiveness, independent decision making, and sustained ownership that mitigates risk to the company.

Projects

1. Offer support in terms of constructive customer relationships during project execution.
2. Assist in the practical project execution of special orders and installations.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

1. Five years' experience in the diesel generator industry.
2. Five years' experience in diesel generator installation requirements.
3. Knowledge or formal qualification in electrical installation bylaws for diesel generators.
4. Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
5. Syspro knowledge to confirm stock availability will be an advantage.
6. MS Projects knowledge is also required.
7. Good knowledge of reputable and reliable equipment and service suppliers in the industry.

1. Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language.
2. Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing, including formal communications and making presentations.
3. Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant.
4. Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm as well as the willingness to handle difficult situations.
5. Ability to pay close attention to detail and coordinate various activities simultaneously.
6. Ability to work well in a team setting.
7. Must have excellent technical and communication skills.
8. Good telephone manner.
9. The ability to work under pressure.
10. A keen sense of urgency and a willingness to learn additional job-related skills.
11. A code 8 driver's license.
12. A valid passport.

WORKING CONDITIONS

1. Predominantly out of the office but still based in Johannesburg, Energy Solutions Division.
2. A fair amount of travel will be required.
3. Subject to work beyond normal working hours, evenings, weekends and holidays should the need arise.
4. Attends and participates in continuing educational programs designed to keep you abreast of changes in your profession.

The main responsibilities of the post will be reviewed on a regular basis, in consultation with your supervisor to meet the changing needs of your department in line with the company's strategic plan.
