BU Director: Manufacturing Logistics SA

Job Purpose

The Director of Manufacturing Logistics will lead and expand DHL Supply Chain South Africa’s Manufacturing Logistics business, ensuring excellence in service delivery and driving sustainable growth. The role aims to establish market leadership within the next five years by developing and executing a strategic roadmap aligned with the Africa cluster's objectives. This includes fostering a high-performing and diverse workforce, building strong partnerships, and delivering innovative, cost-effective logistics solutions. The incumbent will oversee financial planning, performance management, and market opportunity identification to maintain a competitive edge. Responsibilities also include the development and implementation of key performance indicators (KPIs), service level agreements (SLAs), and commercial agreements, while supporting business development and solutions teams. A critical component will be crafting and executing a comprehensive growth strategy to enhance market presence and position DHL as the leading provider of manufacturing logistics solutions in South Africa.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Supply Chain Strategy & Optimization
    Monitor external market trends and competitor activities to inform business strategy.
    Develop a future-fit commercial model that aligns with DHL’s sustainability objectives.
    Champion the implementation of Manufacturing Logistics and Green Logistics models.
    Serve as a change agent, driving innovation and strategic alignment in Manufacturing Logistics.
    Translate strategy into clear objectives, goals, and responsibilities for teams.
    Leverage technology and automation to improve logistics efficiency.
    Provide strategic support to business units, ensuring logistics solutions align with DHL’s environmental and business goals.
  2. Procurement & Supplier Management
    Implement a standardized costing model incorporating renewable energy solutions.
    Ensure compliance with policies through audits and logistics benchmarking for best practices.
    Foster partnerships with diverse suppliers to promote inclusive procurement practices.
  3. Manufacturing & Inventory Management
    Develop robust financial control systems for cost analysis and planning.
    Establish work measurement programs to drive efficiency and meet key performance targets.
    Support depot teams in cost control, operational flexibility, and performance management.
  4. Logistics & Distribution
    Ensure adherence to Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) standards.
    Oversee security and risk management initiatives to safeguard assets and personnel.
    Apply proactive risk management strategies to mitigate potential threats.
    Drive KPIs to ensure contract fulfillment and meet DHL’s operational expectations.
    Maintain strong customer relationships to achieve revenue and profitability targets.
  5. Risk Management & Compliance
    Conduct regular compliance audits to ensure adherence to policies and best practices.
    Implement risk management strategies that proactively address potential business risks.
  6. Leadership & Stakeholder Collaboration
    Identify, develop, and empower team members to perform at their best.
    Foster an inclusive, collaborative, and high-performing workplace culture.
    Drive sector growth through account expansion and acquisition of new clients.
    Develop strategic plans for key customer accounts and business opportunities.
    Support Business Development in expanding both existing and new operations.
    Oversee workforce planning, talent development, training, and recruitment.
    Maintain positive and productive relationships with trade unions and employee representatives.
  7. Financial & Performance Management
    Deliver key financial and operational metrics, including revenue, profitability, and cash flow.
    Ensure cost efficiency while maintaining high service delivery standards.

Qualifications & Experience

·Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Finance, or a related field (Honors preferred).
·Minimum of 10 years of experience in logistics, including leadership roles.
·Strong background in customer and supplier relationship management.
·Proven experience in business development and account management.
·Expertise in change management and succession planning.
·Proficiency in financial management, including profit and loss oversight.
·Experience in project management, fleet management, and people management.
·Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to drive continuous improvement.
·Proficiency in MS Office and other relevant logistics management tools.
·A deep understanding of supply chain needs, particularly within a Manufacturing Logistics environment.
