POSITION: Bookseller (195 Hour)

REPORTING TO: Store Manager

STORE: Shop 118 Vaal Mall, Vanderbijlpark, Gauteng

Purpose of the Job:

As a bookseller, you will receive and unpack stock, categorize books, and merchandise stock for the customer. You will focus on customer service to ensure that customers receive excellent service by meeting their needs.

You will build your book knowledge every day to establish strong relationships with customers and drive sales.

Main Responsibilities

1. Customer Service: Offer assistance to every customer entering the store with a friendly and positive attitude.
2. Housekeeping: Keep the store clean and tidy.
3. Merchandising: Ensure all window displays and in-store displays are attractive, eye-catching, and changed every two weeks. Check that bestsellers are in stock and on display.
4. Stock Management: Assist the manager in measuring and controlling shrinkage.
5. Security: Be alert and aware of non-shoppers/shoplifters.
6. Book Knowledge: Constantly build your knowledge of the books in the store.
7. Sales and Upselling: Build relationships with potential customers, upsell and cross-sell, push promotions, and recommend substitutes or alternative books and unique products.
8. Admin and Control: Handle cash ups, credit card checks, wage payouts, shortage reports, supplier payouts, attendance registers, email communication, gift vouchers, etc.

Qualifications Required for this Role:

We are looking for an energetic and well-presented salesperson who is physically strong and healthy. A minimum of a matric is required, and experience in retail or a sales environment is preferred. You could be starting your career with a marketing qualification, a degree in English literature, Communications, Journalism, or other qualifications that will benefit your career in a bookstore.

You will gain people skills, be empowered with knowledge, and be exposed to merchandising, promotions, sales techniques, the publishing industry, authors, etc., which will set you up for your future career.
