To oversee aviation operations for Richards Bay/Cape Town Port and to ensure that TNPA aircraft operations are undertaken efficiently in support of TNPA’s pilotage service.
Under directives and guidance from the Chief Pilot: Aviation & Operations Manager: Aviation, lead a team of aviation personnel and support personnel in the Port of Richards Bay/Cape Town to ensure that the highest standards of aviation operations and safety are adhered to at all times. Ensure that facility and equipment are well maintained to comply with operational requirements.
To ensure that operations are in full compliance with the regulatory authorities such as the South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA), South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA) and the Department of Transport (DoT).
Position Outputs
- Assist the Chief Pilot: Aviation & Operations Manager: Aviation in developing plans and roadmaps for efficient and safe aviation operations that comply with regulatory requirements and TNPA processes and procedures.
- Oversee and manage the execution of all aviation operations in the Port of Richards Bay/Cape Town to meet and exceed customer and stakeholder expectations.
- Oversee all projects related to the proper licensing of operational facilities and TNPA aircraft in the Port of Richards Bay/Cape Town.
- Maintain the highest technical and operational standards for efficient service delivery in pursuit of excellence in all business undertakings.
- Direct and implement corrective and improvement action plans within the Port and the department from Chief Pilot: Aviation and Operations Manager: Aviation directives.
- Consistently interpret the operational environment to ascertain levels of risks and map out mitigation strategies.
- Enforce strategic direction, development, and implementation of aviation best practices to meet and exceed minimum requirements, and adapt to changes.
- Oversee the monthly reporting system in the Port, analyse threats and develop intervention strategies to be liaised with Chief Pilot: Aviation. Compile weekly and monthly Base reports.
- Monitor and manage expenditure and ensure that spending occurs within budget restrictions.
- Ensure that the Port Richards Bay/Cape Town helicopter facility is ready at all times for internal and external audits. Ensure facility is well maintained in good condition.
- Oversee the manning and efficiency of flight operations, and training programmes in line with Chief Pilot: Aviation for the Richards Bay/Cape Town base for all personnel.
- Ensure that human resources are managed in accordance with policies and procedures, taking into account effective diversity management.
- Relate all safety matters to Safety and Quality manager as well as Chief Pilot: Aviation, and oversee that such issues are resolved timely.
- To constantly provide business intelligence and innovative strategies to manage increasing service demands and ensure the deployment of assets as required to effectively manage the workload.
- Enhance the TNPA brand by portraying a professional image and excellent reputation as a leading service provider through an efficient Port system.
- Will be required to perform any other duties assigned to him/her by the Chief Pilot: Aviation & Operations Manager: Aviation.
Qualifications and Experience
Aviation Management Diploma or hold an ATPL/H or CPL/H. Previous Aviation Base Management experience or certification will be advantageous. Off-Shore and Oil & Gas experience. 8 years’ experience in Aviation operations will be advantageous.
