The Office of Audit and Investigations (OAI) reports to the Administrator and is responsible for internal audit and investigations services to UNDP and its affiliated entities. OAI provides independent assurance on the effectiveness of risk management and internal controls.

The Audit Analyst reports to the Chief of the RAC for East and Southern Africa (RAC-ESA), covering a portfolio of 23 UNDP country offices in the region. The primary role is to perform internal audits of UNDP country offices and review annual audit exercises.


Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Participates in the annual exercise for the audit of projects directly implemented (DIM) by UNDP
    • Review the annual DIM plan and support the preparation of RFP to external audit firms;
    • Assess proposals for audit services received from audit firms;
    • Oversee the work by audit firms and provide clarifications;
    • Assess draft and final reports produced by external audit firms;
    • Monitor implementation of agreed recommendations;
    • Assess performance of audit firms.
  2. Participates in the annual review of HACT/NIM/NGO audit reports
    • Review annual HACT/NIM/NGO audit plans submitted by country offices;
    • Qualitatively assess the audit reports received;
    • Assess country office follow-up action plans;
    • Prepare review letters and supervise consultants.
  3. Performs other assignments as determined by the RAC Chief or OAI Director
    • Conduct specific elements of assignments in accordance with Global Internal Audit Standards.
  4. Contributes to the ongoing development of professional practices within OAI
    • Participates in knowledge sharing sessions and learning activities.
    • Implements personal learning and training development plan.

The incumbent performs other duties within their functional profile as deemed necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organization.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • Advanced university degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Finance, or related field is required;
  • A first-level university degree with relevant experience will be considered.
  • Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) designation desirable.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 2 years (with master’s degree) or 4 years (with bachelor’s degree) of professional experience in audit or relevant area is required;
  • Working experience in International Organizations is desirable.
  • Field experience is an advantage.

Language:

  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Working knowledge of other languages is an advantage.

Professional Certificates:

  • Additional certifications (e.g., CISA, CFE) are an advantage.

Continuance of appointment beyond the initial 12 months is contingent upon successful completion of a probationary period.
